Tata Chemicals Magadi Limited has filed two applications for new mining licenses (ML/2023/0090 and ML/2024/0156) to extract soda ash in Kajiado County, covering a total area of 127 km².

The applications were published in the Kenya Gazette on October 16, 2025. A 42-day public objection period is now open, during which submissions can be made to the Ministry of Mining.
