Deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend and former Prime Minister of Kenya, Mr. Raila Odinga. He was a towering statesman and a cherished friend of India. I had the privilege of knowing him closely since my days as Chief Minister of Gujarat and our association continued over the years. He had a special affection for India, our culture, values and ancient wisdom. This was reflected in his efforts to strengthen India-Kenya ties. He particularly admired Ayurveda and traditional medicine systems of India, having witnessed their positive impact on his daughter's health. I extend my deepest condolences to his family, friends and to the people of Kenya in this hour of grief.
Today, I was blessed to join the faithful for a powerful Sunday Service at the Lord Promise Church in Kwale County.
In the spirit of fellowship, I called upon worshippers to reflect on the deep need for peace and unity among all Kenyans, regardless of ethnicity or background. We are one people, bound by our shared Constitution and the unwavering hope for a better Kenya.
I reminded the congregation of the painful lessons from the 2007/08 post-election violence, a time when many were made to feel like strangers in their own country. We must never allow our nation to slide back into such a dark chapter. Peace and unity must be our collective covenant.
I shared my journey, from a young MP in 1992, to Assistant Minister, Minister, Senator, and now Speaker of the National Assembly. This path was not carved by my strength alone, but by the grace and favour of God.
