Omo I couldn’t get it o.
At this point I had exhausted all the goodwill of friends. E no get who I never beg for money before this event. And I was even owing a lot of them so I couldn’t go to them.
I just sat there thinking…
“I’m a failure”
“My life sucks”
“What am I living for”
That was the first time I attempted suicide.
2022
I can’t forget that night. My father handed me his phone to help him make transfer to someone and went into his room to sleep. I did the transfer but instead of returning his phone to him, I checked his balance and saw around 300k in the poor man’s account as balance.
At that point I didn’t think about what he probably wanted to use that money for. All I could think of was
“let me just transfer 20k from his account and double it then I’ll return his money and I’ll be left with 20k to play with”
Of course I lost the 20k. Now I’m owing my dad 20k…what do I tell him? What did I use 20k for? Omo! Let me transfer another 20k and try to get 60k so I can give him back 40k and keep 20k.
Again, I lost the 20k. That’s 40k now that I have to pay back! At this point I’m sweating!
Guess what stupid me did?
I increased the money I was stealing from his account. Instead of 20k that I was removing, I removed 40k. My thinking was that it was gonna be easier to double that up to 80k and I’ll be able to return my dad’s money and nobody will find out what I had just done.
As you may be guessing, I lost again.
That’s how I kept removing the man’s money o until all that was left was 2k
I still removed the 2k 😂😂
See this thing called gambling addiction? E get why I dey passionately against am!
Shit fucked me up badly! Sad thing is I couldn’t tell anyone because like what I’m watching in this video, I was scared people will attack me. I was scared they’ll embarrass me. I was scared they’ll laugh at me. I was scared of seeking help because nobody dared to know I was so stupid!
IF YOU ARE GENUINELY INTERESTED IN QUITTING GAMBLING READ THIS
What I am about to share with you is very long but it is something that helped me overcome over 10 years of gambling addiction in just two weeks. I have detailed most of this in my book "Fortnight to Freedom" but I think this post will go a long way in helping a lot of people so please, if this comes across your timeline, like and repost so others can benefit.
Now let's get to it.
The most natural thing people do when they wanna quit something is to cut it out. This is what I did while trying to quit and honestly, this is what most people trying to quit gambling do.
It often goes like this... you place a bet, lose, then frustration kicks in. In that frustration, a part of you that seeks to preserve keeps telling you that you cannot continue this way. In addition to this, you're genuinely drained from this and you just really wished you could do something to stop and so what do you do?
You go into whatever app you are using, in anger and frustration, you maybe deactivate your account or you delete the app. How do I know this? It's what I used to do. And trust me it felt liberating. You start to feel like you are finally in control of your life. It feels like you have taken your life back. There is a rush of control that floods your system. It almost feels like revenge.
Think about the feeling people get when they block someone on social media. Someone insults you, you hit block, and suddenly you feel like you won something. That same surge of control is what deleting betting apps gives you.
And while this can be enough for some people, it's proven very ineffective for most. For me particularly, it never worked. And if you are someone who's already too deep into this shit, there's a 85% chance it won't work for you as well.
The reason is simple...The damn app was never the problem.
It is funny cos nobody tells you this and It is very difficult to comprehend that an app or site that takes your money and makes you feel like shit isn't your problem.
Like i said earlier...I deleted Sportybet so many times I lost count. Bet9ja too. 1xbet, 22bet, Msport, Every single one of them. And every single time, I was back on them within days. Sometimes hours. Because the moment the initial rush of "I just took control" wore off, reality came creeping back in. What was this reality?
Stress
Boredom
Joblessness
Fear
These things were still very much present in my life. All the itch beneath my skin that gambling used to scratch was still very much there, and now it had nothing to scratch it. So my fingers would find their way back to the app store almost on autopilot. Muscle memory. And just like that, I was redownloading everything I just deleted, logging back in, and nothing easy for this life pass to create new bet account. As i was letting these things back, i was rationalising and telling myself "okay just this one time to recover what I lost."
I called this the Chase Mentality in my book and it is the real trap most people never escape.
See ehn...you are not just chasing losses on the betting app. You are also chasing relief. You are chasing the feeling that gambling gave you, that rush, that temporary escape from whatever is weighing on you in real life. And when you delete the app, you do not delete the need for that relief. You just remove one outlet for it while the pressure keeps building underneath.
Think about it this way. Imagine a pipe with water rushing through it at full force. Now imagine you block one end of that pipe. The water does not disappear. It just finds somewhere else to go. Or it builds up until the pressure gets so intense that it bursts through whatever you used to block it. That is exactly what happens when you try to quit gambling by just deleting apps and blocking sites. You are addressing the pipe and ignoring the water entirely.
So what do you do?
This is where it gets counterintuitive and I need you to really open your mind here because everything in you is going to resist what I am about to say.
DO NOT DELETE THE APPS. Keep them. Keep the accounts active.Keep all of it exactly where it is but i need you to do one thing for me. Just commit to not acting on any of it for just 14 days.
Not forever. Not "I am never gambling again" because that statement alone is enough to make your brain panic and send you running straight back. Just 14 days. Two weeks. That is all I am asking you to give yourself.
The psychology behind this is simple and it bothers on the core concept of what is called exposure therapy. When you are terrified of something and you keep avoiding it, the fear grows bigger every time you run. But when you sit in front of the thing that scares you, when you face it without acting on it, something remarkable begins to happen. The intensity starts to drop. Your brain begins to learn that the trigger is not as powerful as it thought. The urge shows up, you observe it, you do not act, and slowly the urge starts to lose its grip on you.
This is how I built what I now call immunity. Every day that I saw a booking code and did not place a bet, I was training my brain to respond differently. Every match I watched with odds on screen and chose to just watch, I was weakening the connection between the trigger and the behaviour. By the end of two weeks, something had shifted so fundamentally that I could not even fully explain it at the time. The apps were still on my phone. The codes were still in the group chats. But they just... did not move me anymore. It felt like watching an advertisement for something you genuinely have zero interest in buying. You see it, you register it, and you scroll past it without a second thought.
That is what freedom actually feels like. Not white-knuckling it through every urge. Not building walls and hoping they hold. But genuinely arriving at a place where the thing that used to control you simply no longer does.
Now I want to be honest with you because this post would be useless if I was not. The first few days of this are hard. Really hard. Day 3 and day 4 especially. That is when the urges are loudest. That is when your brain is going to scream at you that just one small bet will not hurt, that you can feel the rush just once and stop again after. That voice is going to be convincing because it knows exactly what to say to you. It has had years of practice.
But if you can get through day 5, something starts to shift. The urges do not disappear but they start to feel less urgent. Less like an emergency you have to respond to right now and more like background noise you can choose to ignore.
Remember... you are not gambling because you love gambling. You are gambling because something in your life is creating pressure and gambling became your pressure valve. So alongside the 14 days of exposure, you have to start being honest with yourself about what you are actually running from.
What is stressing you right now that you haven't dealt with? What emptiness are you filling with the thrill of a bet? Because until you face those things honestly, you will always find a way back to gambling or something just like it.
The dare I gave myself two weeks was not just "do not bet." It was "face everything you have been using betting to avoid." And I want to give you that same dare right now.
14 days. Keep the apps. Face the triggers. Do not act.
That is where your freedom starts.
Funny but this is how I met my fiancée.
I was just slowly coming out from a very difficult place and had not been in a relationship for 2 years or so. Randomly my padi that year was like Omo ini e don reach make you enter new relationship o. I’m like Oya find babe for me na. So he sent me some pictures of some girls and i immediately took liking to one of them. Quoted her picture and the first thing I said was “I love her”.
I’m like bro link us sharply. Send her my picture guy. Give me her number Oya na. Omo this werey just dey tell me to relax 😭
I didn’t know at the time but he sent her my picture and man the babe was disgusted 😂😂. She’s like which kind person be this. I had one very funny look with what was on my head then (second image). According to her, her first impression was “I can’t show this kind of person to my parents or friends o…they will think I’m not serious” so even though she yielded to that my padi pestering her with me, she knew she was never gonna be anything with me. She was so sure. She just gave her number out for the sake of it
Omo as my padi give me the number like this…I first happy. But then you know that mumu thing guys do na. That thing where you collect a girl’s number and you’ll not text her immediately. That’s what I did 😂. I took the number and I didn’t message this babe for like a week. My padi go dey ask me. How far that level na. I’ll be like omo I never text the girl. Ein go wan mad. Abi you no get game ni ini? Shey you dey fear to message woman? This ini na ogoro o 😂. Nothing wey ein no talk. I go just dey laugh.
One day after I had waited for like a week, I called. Bro 😭 this babe was so cold. I just dey hear okay. Nice. That’s good. Conversation was so short cos I had to run. I’m like I’ll message you on WhatsApp. She’s like okay. Messaged the babe and she’ll be using forever to reply me. Ahhh see Wetin love of my life Dey do me. Naso me sef i vex. Said I’ll not message her gain. So I just shenked her.
Omo only for me to cut my hair and post on WhatsApp status. I went on low cut for the first time in 16 years. So I posted my new look (image 3). First person to respond to that status was this babe. And what she said was “Ahan you’re fine o” I’m like thank you.
Omo since that day Naso this babe start to give me attention 😭
The rest they say is history. Proposed to her in December (last frame)🫢
Lmao
The sooner people realize that nobody has the power to predict shit, the faster they'll stop losing their money to confident idiots on the internet.
Someone posts code with absolute certainty, you rush go put money cos you dey fear to miss out (FOMO). Your brain translates their stupid cocky arrogance into credibility. For you mind you go dey reason say “Wetin go make this guy sure like this, he must be gifted and he probably knows something I don’t”
Na there gan gan them dey always get Una. Everybody just guesses. Just like you do when you pick your own games, that clown “punter” was guessing. The only difference is he's louder about his guesses.
Naso all of them dey do
I’ve been initiating my fiancée small small
She doesn’t know anything about football, she hates to watch it but if Arsenal is playing you’ll hear
“babe have they beaten your team”
I’ll be like “you mean our team”
She’ll say “God forbid, Arsenal that has never won any trophy”
I’m like “don’t worry we will win this season”
She’ll be like “but that’s what you said last year or so”
I’m like “this year is different”
She still doesn’t watch football but at least she talks about Arsenal and knows about our trophy woes 😭
So yes I’m winning her over slowly 🫡
I have a very honest question. Please this is from a place of genuine curiosity…
How do poor people do marriage?
Cos with all I’ve been seeing and hearing, poor man no fit marry be that o.
This is true. And to add to this lobistars, one of the biggest challenges is that most people won't even acknowledge they have a problem in the first place.
You can want to stop and still be terrified to admit what's actually doing you is addiction. Because the moment you call it addiction, you have to face what you've become. So that knowledge (that desire to stop) stays silent. Buried under rationalization.
You’ll hear shit like
"I'm not addicted, I just like sports."
"I'm not like those other people, I have control."
"I only bet what I can afford."
"Everyone does it, so it can't be that bad." "Mayor of ekiti and banks became millionaires from this, so it's possible."
You rationalize yourself into believing you don't have a disease. And how do you help someone who's comfortable in their disease?
Someone who doesn't think what they're doing is hurting them because everyone around them is doing it too?
That's the real trap. Not just the addiction itself, but the denial that makes recovery impossible.
You can't fix a problem you refuse to name.
Sometimes all you need to get something done is for someone to tell you that you can’t do it.
When I tweeted that i wanted to stop gambling, they told me I was fooling myself and that they gave me two weeks.
It’s been one fucking year bitches 🫵🏾
