BREAKING🚨🔴: Thierry Henry on Bruno Fernandes winning the PL player of the season
“People will say I’m being harsh on Bruno Fernandes, but for me the Premier League Player of the Season has to come from players who were truly defining the title race from beginning to end.
Look at Manchester City, they were fighting at the top all season with consistency, pressure, mentality. Then you look at Arsenal, who actually went on to win the league. Week after week they had players stepping up in the biggest moments when the title was on the line.
So when I hear Bruno Fernandes deserves Player of the Season, I ask myself: based on what exactly? Individual numbers alone? Because Manchester United were never seriously in the title race. They were never competing for the Premier League trophy deep into the season.
And this is important even with Arsenal winning the league and City pushing them all the way, no player from either side won the award. That already tells you how difficult the standards are for this trophy.
Bruno is a fantastic footballer, nobody denies that. His creativity, his mentality, his leadership top class. But personally.
I don’t think he deserves it to be fair. If you are going to be crowned the best player in the Premier League, your performances have to translate into a real title challenge or trophies. That’s just how I see football.”
Does he not realise that half of the Premier League Player of the Season awards won by Arsenal players were therefore won by “serial losers” who didn’t win the league that year?
WHAT IS GOING ON?
How can a serial loser this season beat a man who has driven Arsenal to our first League title in 22 years?
This is complete madness.
I completely disagree with this. There’s no reason why goalkeepers should have any extra protection from set pieces. They literally have an advantage over any player in the box in that they can use their hands whilst jumping. Referees just need to enforce the rules better
Former assistant referee Darren Cann has suggested a new rule change which means no attackers are allowed in the six-yard box for corners.
What do you think?🤔
By the letter of the law it’s a foul but how many times have Arsenal got away with similar incidents? Must be a good 2 or 3 this season and will arguably give them the title because of inconsistent refereeing
His foot is on the ground by the time there’s contact. I think it’s reckless but not a clear and obvious error to give a red. If he did give a red I think it would’ve stood though
I think it does just about touch his finger but come on if you’re disallowing a goal for that then the game is dead. Not everything needs a magnifying glass and replayed literally frame by frame
Just watched the game what a result. Two awful goals to give away but Mainoo what a finish absolutely brilliant finishing third would be phenomenal given that we were 6th and struggling
Absolutely baffling how VAR is being used and how inconsistent the decisions are. Arsenal would really struggle in the next few games without him and it’s almost like the officials know this
Tough one. I think Palmer sticks his leg out to shield the ball as Woltemade starts to make the challenge. In the end they both pretty much initiate the contact with each other. One of those where in either case VAR probably sticks with the on field decision
Just not true though is it. It was previously the big 4 then City and Spurs started competing for the top 4 so it was expanded to the big 6 in the early 2010s
The big six was manufactured in the Skysports studios by Manchester United legends to accommodate Manchester United when they were finishing outside the top 4 after Sir Alex Ferguson left. It’s always been the Top 4.
@NUFCPDC From a team that in one night intentionally elbowed one of our players in the face, sarcastically clapped the ref and threw themselves to the ground with no contact and only received 1 yellow for all 3 incidents
I find it hilarious that people were calling for Cunha to be banned for “diving” (despite the tug on his shoulder) at the weekend but say it’s corruption when Ramsey gets booked for throwing himself to the ground with no contact 🤷♂️
