@USGAO sent a letter urging @TheJusticeDept to implement 18 priority recommendations. These recs could save taxpayer dollars, address high-risk areas, and more.

@USMarshalsHQ partners with public & private detention facilities to house people awaiting federal trial or sentencing. Our work found that the Marshals Service didn’t train many of the staff responsible for reviewing the quality of detention conditions, among other issues.
Many of the Marshals Service's facilities are also utilized by ICE, which is expanding its detention capacity to house a growing population—specifically, the number of noncitizens in ICE custody has increased from about 40,000 in January 2025 to over 72,000 in January 2026.
Today we celebrate public defenders, court-appointed counsel, and staff who ensure equal justice and protect our constitutional rights to legal counsel. Thank you for your service! #PublicDefense
