A lot of wrong and outdated information about Honkai Impact 3rd is being spread around by people who have not played the game in a long time. So, because of that, I made a video explaining all of the changes that happened ever since Part 2 got released!

I finally finished playing Chapter 8. What an amazing Chapter! The story of Part 2 was in a perpetual ascension ever since Chapter 2, but Chapters 6,7, and especially 8 have exceeded my expectations by a lot. This is exactly the kind of writing I wanted to see from HoYo in Part 2. This is the character-driven story that made me fall in love with the game in the first place. It really reminded me of the days I first played through Nagazora and saw Mei’s growth!
Ever since I posted my video yesterday, I have seen many people giving out a lot of perspectives about the story. I admitted even in the video that the story of Part 2 isn’t for everyone, and that it’s perfectly valid if people are put off by it or say that it’s not their cup of tea. But I often see many people hating on it by either being purposefully/unconsciously ignorant because they are looking for reasons to move on from the game and not like Part 2, or are unable to accept the existence of a new main cast. While others are just incapable of perceiving the story beyond the most surface level. So, allow me to address some of my thoughts. (I will also make a video on this, but here is the short version)
“Coralie is back! Another fake-out death by HoYoverse!”
While I cannot talk about HoYoverse's other games because, TBH, I don’t look too deep into them, I can talk about HI3. Many people often compare Himeko’s death in Part 1 with Coralie's in Part 2. The two serve different purposes, and it makes sense for Coralie to be back from a narrative perspective, while for Himeko, it was the opposite.
Let’s look at Himeko and Kiana. Himeko’s death in Part 1 was all about the “passing of the legacy”. Kiana, who up to that point was mostly a carefree and cheerful girl, had to come to terms with the tragedy that had happened and bring out the resolve to continue her mission and honor Himeko’s legacy. It was all about a master passing on the torch to the student and setting her on the right path, giving her strength to overcome the difficulties and try her best to “fight for all that’s beautiful in the world” even when the world showed its ugly side. For Himeko’s death to mean something, it had to be permanent.
Now here’s Coralie. To understand her “death”, we need to understand what led to it. Coralie “died” by being stabbed by Litost using some sort of special authority that he was keeping secret from the others. Not even Ajita knew that he had it, but they speculate that this power that can transcend the quantum computer is something that Litost was hiding in the real history, and only used it to make Durandal come after him. Coralie died saving Helia after she made up her resolve that she could be a hero like Durandal… but that resolve was something that Revenge Spirit instilled in her because she knew that it would result in Coralie’s death and Helia’s downfall. “In every world, there is an unlucky Coralie and a pathetic Helia”.
After losing Coralie and becoming Revenge Spirit, Alter Helia became a war machine that hated everyone around her because, in her eyes, they were responsible for Coralie’s suffering… thus becoming a Calamity in itself. She wanted to kill everybody to get revenge… but, most of all, she hated her weak self. Because of this, she peered into this world and tried to manipulate Helia into going on the same path of revenge… to justify her actions in her world. Because of this, Coralie from our world met the same end as hers. For Revenge Spirit, Coralie dying and Helia being a "pathetic coward” who was unable to do anything to stop that was a cycle she wanted desperately to prove. That way, she would justify giving away her humanity. It was all for power, all for not being “Helia” anymore. All for Coralie!
But then we see when Helia was trapped inside Revenge Spirit’s memories that she never truly understood her Coralie and that deep down she knew that… that's why she never bothered to search for the game console or to look into her journal. She always thought that her actions were for Coralie, but that was not true. Coralie never wanted that from her. You can even see in her dialogues that she has forgotten what Coralie was supposed to be like, clinging to this idealized version of her in her mind. In the end, our Helia chose to accept her weakness and Coralie’s feelings by staying true to herself and moving forward. She managed to defeat Revenge Spirit, thus breaking this cycle of Coralie dying because she had to save the useless Helia. Coralie being back is the perfect metaphor of this cycle being broken, proving once and for all that Revenge Spirit was wrong and that there is another path. Not to mention that Ajita gives us even an in-game reason, saying that because of the nature of the Quantum Computer and Litost’s authority, killing him may bring Coralie back. And we don’t even know in what form she returned. We only heard her voice at the end of the Chapter. Very different from Himeko!
“Death is meaningless in the Quantum Computer. There are no stakes now!”
IDK why people are so obsessed with death. Part 1 had 1 death. Himeko! That’s it! It’s very rare for a game like this to kill its marketable characters. And I appreciate what they did with Himeko. But HI3 was never a game about death, or high stakes for the lives of its cast. It’s a game about girls growing up and maturing, a game about breaking free from the chains of destiny, a game about humanity vs “divinity”. The devs stated that multiple times. Even without the lives of the characters on the line, the game keeps delivering on the same themes that it did in Part 1. The essence of Part 1 was never about characters dying, but about Kiana, Mei, and Bronya growing up. And that’s exactly what we get in Part 2 with Helia and the rest of the cast.
Finally caught up with the HSR main story. Amphoreus is peak!
Not just 3.3, but 3.1 and 3.2 were very good. HSR has many issues in the way it tells and presents its story... I agree. HoYo could pace things better, and the presentation definitely needs improvement, but the story itself was incredible. I feel that choosing to tell the main story over 8 patches was an excellent idea.
One thing Penacony lacked was the fact that most of the playable characters felt really shallow and people didn't really have much of a reason to care about most of them. Well, Amphoreus solves that issue because the story is told over a longer time and each of the characters gets their time to shine.
I know that HSR's story isn't perceived very well by the people in the broader gacha community... but I am completely sincere in saying that my experience with it was absolutely incredible. The writing for the Honkai series is not for everyone... it can be pretentious, but if you take your time to pay attention and see things beyond a surface level, you'll see that the things presented in these stories are very good.
I am happy to see both Honkai games killing it with the story lately. Cannot wait for 3.4 to come!
I think one of my biggest hope in HSR is having a character like Vill-V, cause she was my favorite Flame-Chaser and I loved talking about her so much
But also if we get such a character again, I will hope we get post about everything made again
I got so excited back in 2022 😭
@Nyalter4@StarRailVerse1 Part 2's story had a rough start I won't lie, but lately the story has been A LOT better. Nearly everything since Part 2 Chapter 3 has been really good IMO. I'm enjoying the Part 2 cast & story way more than when it started.
