MAHER: “Who gives a shit? What does it matter what your name is?”

MELLENCAMP: “It matters!”

MAHER: “Well, plainly it didn’t.”

MELLENCAMP: “No, It matters.”

MAHER: “Why? Why? You sold records as John Cougar. You sold records as John Cougar Mellencamp. You sold records as John Mellencamp.”

MELLENCAMP: “The songs were okay.”

MAHER: “I know. That’s what I’m saying.”

MELLENCAMP: “And the critics did not like [the name change]. They thought it was cornball. They like ‘Bad Bunny.’ It’s kind of a corny name. I don’t have anything against the guy, but it is a funny name.”
