@MaindeckGames @grandarchivetcg @KozmicPlays Yup! It’s tough to rebuild a dead locals from scratch when we get this feedback, especially in the crowded TCG market.

Without an established space, pack opening experiences become more important to build hype.

I wonder if sentiments lean positive in a more established space.

@MaindeckGames @grandarchivetcg @KozmicPlays Yes, the game exists & has a fanbase for a reason! There’s a lot to love!

Some folks may be satisfied with (or don’t prioritize) the pack experience, which is valid.

However, a monotonous pack experience isn’t an uncommon bit of feedback for GA, & I’m rooting for it to improve.

@MaindeckGames @grandarchivetcg @KozmicPlays Communal pack openings are a big part of local play in my area, so when it “wasn’t fun” to open packs of the new set for the JPTCG folks, it had a deflating effect with tangible disappointment.

The TCG market is so crowded now, it’s easy to look elsewhere for a better experience

@MaindeckGames @grandarchivetcg I only brought up MTG, because the @KozmicPlays comment I responded to mentioned onboarding from MTG.

For GA, the JP art style will naturally invite folks from other JP TCGs. So the pack opening experience may not meet those expectations (even from small JP games like GR).

@KozmicPlays @MaindeckGames @RaravinTCG Worth noting that even MTG sets nowadays have a plethora of alternate arts, variants, alternate framing, foiling in most packs, etc, to make the pack opening experience more enjoyable.

Using the “Western design” excuse falls flat, when even plenty of western games address this.

@KozmicPlays Had a friend crack open a couple boxes recently. The art is great, but the pack opening experience was lackluster.

Yes, the rarities are labeled, but it wasn’t fun, and we constantly had to check for special cards that we may have missed. Other games have solved for this already

@KozmicPlays If you have a locals for the game, it’s honestly a pretty good time to dip your toe back in. Very interested to hear about your experience nowadays.

I don’t recall any other major TCG release until the digital realm steps up with Worlds Beyond, at least.
