I'm very proud of myself and @allisonperrrone for making this show for the last five years and now I'm proud we're ending it. AI computational creativity was a fun emerging niche when we started. Now it's kinda depressing. We'll be back soon to ruin another niche interest!
A bit about a recent paper I was lucky to be involved in, with Anton Torggler and @philwintersberg about how our autonomous vehicles should speak to us. A nifty little piece of research from a talented MSc student at @tu_wien and an always insightful professor, now at @fhooe
Proud to see my colleague @YunhanWu1's work being presented at #cui2022, though I'm furious at @ukhomeoffice for leaving her in the dark about her visa, preventing her from coming to Glasgow to share her research herself.
So excited to hear @kann_su talking about plurilingualism in CUIs, a topic that the community is really starting to focus on. And it was so nice to finally meet each other in person! #cui2022
Helin Cihan is representing @UCD_iSchool @hci_ucd very well at @ACM_CUI! Bilingual By Default is a paper I'm proud to be involved in on a critically important topic #cui2022
Amazing discussion today at the CUIs as Entertainers SIG today @ACM_CUI! Thanks to @lmhclark @MatthewAylett27 and @allisonperrrone for planning this with me! Want more resources on the topic? Check and edit this list!
https://t.co/tZJSA0I6M5 and listen to @RobotTypewriter!
And if you're coming to CUI, catch @lmhclark and I hosting a SIG on CUIs as Entertainers that we planned with @matthewaylett and @allisonperrrone. If you've read our prior papers on the topic, or heard Leigh and Matthew make you suffer, darling, you're sure to suffer some more!
PREPRINTS! I've got some @ACM_CUI papers coming and it's time for some self promotion! First, a provocation led by Sophie Becker and with @HCI_Punk - Embrace Your Incompetence! Let CUIs be uncertain and self-effacing, make design more ecologically valid!
https://t.co/SkRsP4tRG5
I'm incredibly proud to be a coauthor on all of these papers, particularly both provocations led by @UCD_iSchool MSc students! I can't wait to talk about these papers at @ACM_CUI in a few weeks, and to hear about all the other interesting work the community has been pursuing.
And finally, @mmitchell_ai's thoughtful, forward looking thread on the topic (and her indispensable paper, Stochastic Parrots) should be the top of the reading list for anyone interested in language models, CUIs (@ACM_CUI) or curious about this story

A lot of mixed feelings about what's being reported in this great article from @nitashatiku; everything from my appreciation of @cajundiscordian, to my anger@ a few ppl in Google leadership, to my position as a relatively advanced researcher in this field.

The headline about a Google engineer believing #LaMDA to be sentient has me reflecting on my paper with @allisonperrrone and @lmhclark
about language models sharing experiences of being queer. Parroting human language does not equal lived experience. https://t.co/AEtJjZC7FE
@allisonperrrone @lmhclark See also, the always wonderful @JanelleCShane similarly interviewing GPT-3 about it's experience as a squirrel. AI Weirdness has been a tremendous resource both for sharing the joys and humor of AI, but also in highlighting its shortcomings.
