It got it right pretty much every time.
It allowed teams outside of the top two to exit on a high note, with a victory in a meaningful bowl game. It's wild to me that nobody else seems to think it's absurd how the Rose Bowl and Orange Bowl are mostly quarterfinal games now.
An Iron Bowl where Auburn/Bama both know they can lose and still win a natty vs an Iron Bowl where they know it could be the night their rival crushes all their aspirations.
Which rivalry game sounds more intense?
In most BCS seasons, the two teams in the title game were the two best. When the BCS got it wrong, a four-team playoff would’ve fixed the problem. A 12- or 24-team playoff defeats the purpose of the regular season and makes college football no different from the NFL.
Translation: “If the dollars come back right on the extra inventory and we’re made whole (plus a little extra) after ditching the conference title game, we’re in.”
They do not care that most of you don’t want 24.
The NCAA needs to kill the 24-team playoff talk right now. College football was built on regular-season urgency, bowl tradition, regional rivalries and high-stakes Saturdays. Give me 4 teams, 8 at the absolute max, or just bring back the BCS computer. Every week should matter. #CFB #CollegeFootball
Is it time baseball can admit the wild card round was a mistake? This is unnecessary and a waste of time.
You have disincentivized the regular season, ruined September chases, to add a bunch of 3 game series’ that are routes.
The toothpaste is out of the tube so it will never but just move back to 4 teams (division winners+ 1 wild card), play 7 game series’ and call it a playoffs
People still talk about this, no one remembers JMU in the playoffs just a season ago. No one remembers Boise in the playoffs 2 seasons ago. These games meant infinitely more than a playoff game in a tournament you could never win.
Everything about this 24-team playoff is so dumb.
Let’s replace the two best teams in the SEC, B1G, ACC and Big 12 playing each other for a championship — for eight mid teams playing each other in the “first round” of the CFP.
Brilliant.
I’m convinced the people cheerleading for expanded CFB playoffs were not CFB fans 15 years ago. They’re Johnny come lately NFL fans who only started to care about CFB because of the playoffs.
If they knew how good we had it pre 2014 they wouldn’t be doing this.
2026 #Cubs were an extreme rollercoaster ride w/ thrills & nausea.
It’s time for Tom Ricketts to demand answers from Hoyer, Hawkins, & Counsell.
Since early May, Cubs were 19.5 games worse than #Brewers.
Cubs led #Padres by 8 games on Aug 7th & choked.
1 lousy run in wild card.
Load management games.
Resting starters.
Decreased stakes.
Decreased urgency.
Diluted regular season.
Allowing a ton of losses.
Conference championships gone.
Bowl games gone.
They’re going to jam 18 SEC/B1G teams in.
A 7-5 SEC team will get in at some point guaranteed at the expense of an 8-4 or 9-3 small brand.
🔥 24-team Playoff 🔥
Anyone pushing this hates College Football.
News flash: expanding the playoff won’t help instead it will turn CFB into CBB where people can tune in for the final month rather than every single Saturday
You're right Calen. In an expanded 24-team playoff, 7-4 Missouri vs. 6-5 Vanderbilt, for the No. 23 seed will have much more meaning in a few years.
If this is what you want, then respectfully, you're an idiot 🤦♂️🤦♂️
2008 College Football: a Week 5 loss meant so much that a QB publicly apologized while in tears and his postgame speech is eventually engraved on a plaque on the outside of their stadium.
24-team CFP College Football: you can literally lose 4 times and it doesn’t matter.
One of the most famous games of the 21st century in CFB. Today it would be a “meaningless bowl game”. The sport peaked during the BCS. But yeah let’s just keep expanding the playoffs
When losing a regular season game no longer feels like getting shot through the heart we’ve lost the essence of what makes college football the best sport in the world
The 24-team playoff removes all meaning from the games. There will be no stakes anymore. Trying to go 12-0 as an elite team will become counterproductive, teams will coast and “load manage,” not sweat dropping a few games, then enter the CFP 9-3 fresh and ready to go
