I am so fortunate to call these three wonderful colleagues my good friends.
I feel lucky we get to work together each day and to do it at Spectrum News 1.
I met McKenna Palacios at the RailYard in my hometown, Black Mountain. She’s been helping others since the storm hit, despite some challenges she’s faced after Helene.
Here’s a portion of my story with her:
@CaddieKev It’s devastating to see this. I grew up in the area and spent every summer enjoying Montreat. I’m an anchor with Spectrum News 1 - any chance you could connect me to the person who shot this video? I want to see if we can get permission to use on air/online.
These drone photos I took a few years ago show what the area used to look like downstream from this reservoir that supplies water to Asheville. It’s a much different scene than what it looks like now in the @chefjoseandres video below in this thread.
It seems main Reason Asheville has not water is because the main water line that brings 2/3 of the water from the Laurel Ridge, Black Mountain reservoir is badly broken in different parts. On top of that the pumping stations are damage or without electricity. That why @wckitchen we are bringing 5 water trucks for distribution…contributing to efforts to have everyone with access to water..#ChefsForNorthCarolina
POWER. Just now above Ingles on Hwy 9 in Black Mountain! Note, this is the main road through town, side roads still have nothing.
Gas pumps are working, but it’s a trickle.
From WH Pool Report:
Biden said he will visit North Carolina on Wednesday to "survey the damage...withouyt taking resources and burning resources on the ground."
He will land in Raleigh for a meeting with the Emergency Operations Center and then will do an aerial tour. #Ncpol@SpecNews1CLT
