Clericalism! This is exactly what the Reformers were trying to get away from—dictation of citizenship policy to magistrates— only now it’s expressed in 20th century “religious liberty” terms. (23.3 is not this sweeping even in the 1788 btw)
Almost 14 years ago, I was pursuing ministry in the Reformed Church in America (RCA).
A mid-certification interview was conducted by a group that included female clergy.
They asked about women’s ordination, and I politely told them I disagreed with it based on the Bible’s teaching.
They failed me on the basis that I didn’t “empathize enough with women.”

@ChristianHeiens@kangminlee This is correct.
The question I have is why has it influenced the S. Korean church as well?
The amount of missionaries that are sent out from SK is 2nd to the US and yet the birth rate is the lowest in the world.
South Korea already has much more than that. It has longer parental leave, universal early childcare, monthly child allowances, infant cash payments, paternity leave, maternity leave, and child tax credits.
And here’s what’s happened to the county’s birthrate.
The idea that birth rates are cratering because we don’t have enough welfare/redistribution programs is absurd.
People don’t want kids because they constitute an imposition on one’s life, and we live in an age where all “impositions on life” are treated like a type of tyranny to escape from, not something to celebrate and cherish.
The collapsing birth rate is better understood as a spiritual crisis, not an economic one. If money was the thing holding back people from having kids, the US and South Korea would have Niger’s birth rate and Niger would be recording 0 births per woman.
They are attacking Jeremy Carl because he dared to point out the obvious.
But courage is not rewarded by our cowardly political establishment—including “conservatives” who are willing to destroy America in order to avoid being called “racist.”
First of all THANK YOU to all of my friends and supporters (new and longtime) who have written kind words of encouragement both publicly and privately. I've been overwhelmed by the volume of responses, so if I haven't had a chance to reach back out, please do understand that I really appreciate it.
The hearing was tough and I fully expected it to be tough. From the moment I was first nominated last June and renominated in January, I went into this process very clear-eyed.
I suspect the hearing was more difficult for some of my friends and family to watch than it was for me to experience. I wasn't bothered or troubled during it at any time, though I was of course disappointed that the minority would rarely allow me to even answer the "questions" they posed.
The Democrat Senators who were yelling at me, calling me names or casting aspersions on my character, none of them know me at all--so their words mean nothing. None of them ever even met with me, though my team made me available for months to any member who requested a meeting.
The very kind and entirely unsolicited comment below is from a prominent person on this site who does know me, and that is a thousand times more important to me than the empty screeching of the Democrats.
There are multiple reasons for this problem, the majority are self-inflicted. Defense & government contractors have for years operated with Affirmative Action plans, which penalized white-males, who traditionally would have been most apt to go into this type of work.
I suppose some would list this as the top reason for why they can’t find people to hire, but I’d suggest this would only be the top reason in the sense in which it set the ideological groundwork for Marxist Affirmative Action and the Civil Rights Act/s rather than
