The party monologue might be the most underrated disturbing scene in Obsession.
What starts as a casual gathering takes a bizarre turn when Wish Nikki launches into a rambling Hansel and Gretel story, twisting a familiar fairy tale into something deeply unsettling. The room falls silent, her friends exchange nervous looks, and for the first time, everyone begins to see that the “perfect” girlfriend Bear wished for isn’t behaving like a real person at all.
Behind the scene, the sequence was designed to create discomfort without relying on horror imagery or violence. Instead, Curry Barker lets Nikki’s unnatural speech patterns, awkward pauses, and increasingly warped interpretation of the story do the work. The camera lingers on the group’s reactions, making the audience feel trapped in the conversation right alongside them.
It’s a masterclass in social horror. Nobody can explain exactly what’s wrong, but everyone can feel it. And that’s what makes the scene so memorable.
Just caught this from #Obsession:
At the party Sarah is wearing a black top showing her heart tattoo when Bear smiles about having to kiss her. Freaky Nikki layers steals this look and even sharpies a heart tattoo on her skin while Sarah is in the other room chillin. Masterful work by Curry man… masterful.
The part in #obsession where the real nikki begs bear to kill her and all he could ask her was "what's so bad about being with me" and then left was the actual horror.
