In 1997, a Child Protection Unit policeman based in Khayelitsha made a life-changing decision.
He arrested and then shot dead the man who had raped his six-year-old daughter.
He would be sentenced to nine years behind bars for doing so - by then Judge, later CJ Sandile Ngcobo.

@DrDhlamini When I worked in KZN, during the summer months I had at least one snake bite every call. Given anti-venom numerous times, intubated patients for snake bites, debrided their wounds, performed fasciotomies etc. Snake bites are a huge health care burden in KZN.

Partners In Health announced that its founder, Dr. Paul Farmer, unexpectedly passed away today in his sleep while in Rwanda.

Dr. Farmer was 62 years old. He is survived by his wife, Didi Bertrand Farmer, and their three children.
