I remember being broke for Christmas one year after food shopping and paying the bills and wrote a post dated cheque to make sure I could provide a good Christmas for my family. I've lived as high and as low as it's possible to go. There were times I'd put £10 worth of petrol in my tank and other times £50. I’ve had £5 to just feed myself and I’ve also had £200 to go out to eat. I've had a house full of food and times I didn't have any. I've been in shops cashing out with no worries, and I've also had to add it up and put things back on the shelf. I've paid my bills in full, and I've had to pay them late, too. I've given money and I, too, have had to ask for it.
We all have ups and downs in life. Some certainly more than others, but we are all just trying to make it.
No one is better than anyone else, and my heart is sad for those people who think that they are. No matter how big your house is, how new your car is, or how much money sits in your bank account , we all bleed red and will eventually fade from this earth. Death has no discrimination, and neither should your life.
Be kind to others. We are all here to serve. Stop the power tripping. Your oversized ego won't get you anywhere.
Be humble. And keep faith going.

What’s happening in Gaza right now is exactly what happened after 2006, the last time the IDF pulled out.

They start killing each other, shooting in the streets, executing dozens, and torturing thousands.

This is precisely what happened between Hamas and Fatah, and it’s what’s happening now between Hamas and rival clans.

At the end of the day, we’re talking about a barbaric society that knows no other way. Anyone expecting the people of Gaza to govern themselves in any manner other than a tribal, barbaric one is in for a serious disappointment.

That’s why the smartest thing that could be done for the Palestinians is to place them under an international mandate for a few decades—raise new generations there who will go through a process of de-barbarization.

Then maybe, one day, they’ll be able to manage their own affairs like civilized people.

Now I know—some will say, “If that’s how they choose to govern themselves, it’s their right, and no one has the authority to say otherwise.”

To them I say: there’s no problem with that, as long as their barbarism stays within Gaza’s borders.

But we all know that’s not what will happen.

Sure, you could do what the Egyptians did—build a massive fortified wall to cut them off from the rest of the Palestinian Gaza.

But Egypt can get away with that—no one says a word. Just like when they flattened Egyptian Rafah, the other half of the city across the border. By the way, it was the larger half—and there’s almost nothing left of it.

Israel can’t do that.

Israel gets blamed—as if Egypt never ruled Gaza, as if Gazans weren’t basically Egyptians.

But it’s Israel that’s expected to provide the humanitarian crossings, not Egypt.

Just another example of the moral double standard the world applies only to Israel.

In short: what’s happening in Gaza now shouldn’t surprise anyone—and without international intervention, nothing will change

He duped the electorate. An utterly shameless display of snake oil political salesmanship. And still he lectures all of us in that gratingly sanctimonious manner of his like we are all somehow the problem here.

@paullewismoney Perhaps we need to go back to the times of the post ww2 era where insurance companies invested in property for the long-term and rented them on a fair rent system. Take private landlords i.e. those here for the short haul completely out of the equation.

When I became pregnant for the first time, my abusive husband (now ex) became fixated on pregnancy nutrition. He read several articles that convinced him sugar was harmful to the baby and demanded that I cut it from my diet 🙄

I agreed that cutting back was sensible, but I didn’t think I needed to cut it out entirely, particularly as I was fit and healthy. Yet every time I reached for something sweet, he would lecture me on the dangers of sugar, bombard me with articles, and accuse me of not caring about our baby.

He began coming with me to the supermarket, dictating what I could and couldn’t buy. At a dinner party with friends, when they mentioned dessert was on the way, my husband quickly interjected, "None for her, she's avoiding sugar for the baby's sake." 😠

I felt embarrassed and humiliated, and furious that he would answer on my behalf. But when I tried to push back, his mood turned dark. “Are you so selfish that you’d rather eat a piece of cake than have a healthy baby?” he asked. “If you truly cared about our baby, you would make this small sacrifice.”

The accusations became nastier and nastier. Eventually, I gave in and cut sugar out of my diet completely.

This is how coercive control works - it is the relentless guilt-tripping, harassment, and humiliation. It is one cutting remark or accusation after another. It is the shaming and manipulation that gradually wears you down.

Bit by bit, you learn to comply because the consequences of resisting are simply too overwhelming.

Fundamental thing being missed about the welfare rebellion. The legislation itself is wrong. 100% wrong. The welfare bill does need to be reduced. But targeting people with genuine disabilities, like MS and Parkinson, via their PIP payments is not the way to do it.
