Riad Bouchaker was not contributing to society, didn’t speak English and never integrated yet he managed to become a citizen in the country he seemed to hate so much.
There needs to be a complete overhaul of the citizenship process.
You must speak English.
Be resident ten years.
Never claimed welfare during that ten year period for more than 30 days in any one year.
Provide your own accommodation and not social housing.
Must take a short verbal test on basic Irish history and culture.

You would imagine the cruise organiser and event promoter knew long before setting sail that Turkey has well known laws and moral objections regarding LGBTQ+ events. Whether you agree or disagree with Turkey’s position, none of this should have come as a surprise. It does raise the question of whether attempting to dock there was less about expecting permission and more about generating headlines and publicity.
