@Wetter_Frosch_@ryankatzrosene@ed_hawkins That’s the Greenland ice melt which introduces freshwater to one of the only places in the world where deep ocean water is created, reducing downwelling and slowing the Gulf Stream (which basically fucks Europe in the ass)
@criteredemonge@ShaneWhittman@nik0p0l5 Azerbaijan expelled over a hundred thousand Armenians from their lands in 2023 and actively lobbies foreign governments against recognizing the Armenian genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire
@mechapreneur@Saganismm Wait until you find out plants have a tolerance range when it comes to temperature and pH. CO2 increases the greenhouse effect and lowers pH, killing the plants that would otherwise love a CO2 range of 800-1200 ppm.
@mechapreneur@Saganismm Phytoplankton do not take up all of that 70% nor can they effectively capture all of the CO2 that has been dumped into the ocean. Many species of phytoplankton rely on calcium carbonate that is dissolved under the presence of increased CO2 levels, resulting in death.
@mechapreneur@Saganismm There are not enough plants in the ocean (there are barely any below 100 meters) to curb the growth in CO2 (the oceans absorb more CO2 than the atmosphere). Excess CO2 results in carbonic acid formation, lowering pH and dissolving necessary carbonate shells in animals.
@mechapreneur@Saganismm Carbon Dioxide released into the atmosphere cannot be completely captured by plants, resulting in the gas being absorbed into the oceans (lowering their pH significantly) and the atmosphere (50% higher than at any point in the past million years)
