The decline is part of a much bigger problem. Between 2023 and 2025/26, MultiChoice lost more than 2.8 million subscribers across Africa. Last year alone, it lost over 589,000 in South Africa.

This should not surprise anyone.

Consumers are paying more but getting the same recycled content, repeated movies, and endless reruns. Meanwhile, streaming platforms and affordable internet have given people far more choice and control.

The days when pay TV had no competition are over.

Unless DStv reinvents itself quickly, this subscriber exodus is unlikely to slow down.

Kenyan man Kamau wa Kisumu has accused Senator Karen Nyamu of failing to pay a debt owed to his small hotel near Mama Lucy Hospital.

According to Kamau, Karen Nyamu visited the hotel and ordered food for several people, including fries, soda, and other foodstuff. He says he was delighted by the visit, viewing it as a blessing and an opportunity for his business to gain exposure from a prominent politician. Kamau claims the Senator requested his M-Pesa number and promised to pay later, but days have passed and she has allegedly stopped answering his calls.

Karen Nyamu has responded by saying that she made people eat at Kamau wa Kisumu's hotel fo free as an act of revenge, alleging that Kamau had previously appeared in multiple media interviews criticizing both her and President William Ruto.

Kamau had gone viral after recording a video claiming that he was misled by the President and never received a motorcycle he expected following a visit to State House.
