@xMBGx With a disc drive that lasts more than a couple years, I might buy one for $500. There's no reason to buy Sony anymore. PC is a better experience with a better selection, and PS exclusives are too few and far between with nothing really desirable in the mix. GoY and SM2 both mid.
@Puertorock77_ Impressive supporting a company that is fucking over all customers by getting rid of physical. Sony stands to increase revenue by 50% per game sold with this move. How much cheaper do you think games, subscriptions, and hardware will get? Oh wait, they're getting more expensive.
@AllDemThangs@Puertorock77_ How? Does supporting physical media mean people only buy physical media? Who's making that argument? And people are already pulling back from the digital version on PS to wait for the PC. People that have PC and PS5 will pass on the PS version for performance, but now also this.
@chaakravue The game design and execution from Day 1 is why the game died. Bungie incentivized and cultivated a sweaty, no-life playerbase and rejected their casual playerbase. This was the design they chose and built, and the results can't surprise anyone. The game was always going to fail
@CraigHarris456 You can't see the forest for the trees. If Sony wants to start competing against all digital markets, I'll just go to better markets with better pricing, policies, and selection. I might get this on disk eventually for PS5, but I'm buying it day 1 on Steam. Better digital space.
@Timothy_Mark7 Complex and deep systems are toxic in live service games for this reason. From the beginning, Marathon rewarded sweaty players and streamers with no-life while casuals with normal lives got left in the dust to get crushed by the "vets". This game was always going to fail.
@bungieman28 This is what the marathon community wanted and celebrated. Three "deep and complicated systems" that require time and diligence to master. Those kind of systems are immediately hostile towards new players a week after launch, so the playerbase you got is the one you deserve.
@oliver_drk Capcom also expanded it's marketshare on PC, which is all digital. So while their overall digital sales and percentage increased, physical sales didn't DECREASE. They just had more games sell on a digital platform.
@oliver_drk Resident Evil Requiem sold around 3 million physical copies at release. If Sony thinks Ghost of Lesbians was a smash hit for selling 2 million in a month, not sure how 3 million in launch for "dead physical media" is bad. %'s are meaningless without units sold.
@GameRant Reality check: My bluray player in my PS5 is going out after 3 year, but the 12 year old one in my PS4 Pro works fine. Also my Blu Rays and games from 30 years ago work perfectly fine. Weird.
@pushsquare Oh look. It's $50 on steam. I'll just get it there. Fuck you Sony. Although if Konami weren't massive pieces of shit, they'd release it on GoG. But wouldn't want to lose the DRM on 15 year old titles... this is why emulators and piracy exists: customer demand.
@pushsquare I'll just wait for the emulator to rip it off. Fuck you, Sony. My PS5 can't even play blurays properly anymore lol. Dogshit console that collects dust because all the exclusives are just lesbian girl bosses and crying men. Such fun.
@ZhugeEX Given that PS has the 2nd largest market share behind Nintendo, that ~20% is huge. You're talking 10s of millions, maybe 100 million physical games (not DLC or add-ons)sold. The percentage looks bad until you look at units sold by platform. But the PS6 will half Sony's market.
@DexFragg@ZhugeEX That's because a lot of retailers stopped selling Xbox in general. The series X generation wasn't selling and shelf space isn't cheap, especially in an electronics section. When Costco can't sell your console, it ain't selling.
@ZhugeEX So Sony and Microsoft are the same kind of company? Xbox has always operated at a loss on their consoles, the 360 being an exception. But they're a software company, so until they tried to push the service model over software (and really dogshit games), they were actually fine.
@ZhugeEX Why would it be even higher now if physical sales, year-over-year from 2024 to 2025 grew by 3%? The more likely scenario is the physical market is more or less down to its niche customer base, and sales will vary yearly based on titles. PS just going for a monopoly.
