Nyali School Betrayed by Greed and Corruption

The once-revered Nyali School stands today as a testament to corruption, greed, neglect and betrayal.

Its proud legacy has been tarnished by years of mismanagement.

Previously hallowed halls are now marred by endless scandals with parents and the community wrestling against those who have brought their beloved institution to its knees.

In a resolute display of solidarity and defiance, parents took to the streets on Monday to demand accountability as they marched along Links Road, stretching from Nyali Primary School to Nyali Centre.

The crux of their grievances lies in the construction of flats on the school's adjacent land by Symbion Consulting Group - a company reportedly linked to former Board of Management (BOM) Chairman Benjamin Gitonga.

Despite extensive discussions with various governmental authorities, including the County Commissioner, Education and Security teams and MP for Nyali, the entrenched old board has adamantly refused to sign the Consent form which is crucial for withdrawing the legal battle from court and allowing the duly elected board to take over.

This refusal is seen by many as a deliberate attempt to maintain control and prolong the agony for the school and its stakeholders.

"These buildings must be brought down. Hakuna negotiations with these people. They knew very well this is school land but still went ahead and constructed," said one angry parent.

"The same contractor was used for another school scandal in Mavueni where the school lost Ksh 200 million to a project that stalled. They were building Nyali Secondary School though they inflated the land price and materials, and the project stalled at foundation level. Back then there was another board, whose chairman is now the owner of Symbian."

Connecting the dots, it becomes apparent that there's more than meets the eye.

According to parents, the National Land Commission (NLC) concluded that the land belongs to Nyali School and that owners of those flats pay the school a figure yet to be disclosed.

But someone mentioned a payment was due this July and that's why the old board is applying delay tactics to receive the payment.

Walking through the Nyali School grounds today, it's hard to reconcile the reality.

The deplorable state of its facilities has not only eroded the physical infrastructure but has also given rise to serious health issues among its students.

From filthy kitchens to decrepit classrooms and bathrooms - the conditions are nothing short of appalling.

The canteen, where children should receive nourishment is instead a breeding ground for illness.

It's no wonder students suffer from urinary tract infections and other health problems given the lack of basic sanitation and hygiene.

"Teaching here has become increasingly difficult. The lack of basic facilities like functioning toilets and clean drinking water makes it hard to maintain a conducive learning environment. Many of our students come to class sick because of the unsanitary conditions," said one teacher.

It is a scene straight out of a horror movie, except this is real life for the poor students at Nyali School.

Hi Nyakundi. Just a quick update on what I mentioned last time. I used the Expressway today from Mlolongo to Capital Center. Gazetted charge should be Ksh 400 but there's an additional deduction of Ksh 2 on the ETC. Estimating that about 200 drivers use ETC per hour this amounts to 400 Ksh unlawfully deducted. Now, let's do the math for a 10-hour duration. That's Ksh 4000. In a month, it adds up to 12,000 Ksh. Ficha ID Mount Everest kwa creavase.

Nationwide Electrical Industries Under Fire for Hiring Shady HR Consultant

There is growing unease at Industrial Area based Nationwide Electrical following the hiring of an HR consultant previously fired from Ramco Industries for gross misconduct who is now (unsurprisingly) harassing native employees at the company by implementing draconian rules.

This has resulted in a massive worker turnover in the last two months.

Sources indicate that HR is in deep collaboration with the Muhindi employer and is forcefully imposing new policies that employees are being coerced to sign.

This has caused widespread distress among the workforce which is now pleading for intervention from labour organizations.

"Nyakundi Huyu David ni shida tupu. Since akuje tumekuwa na stress daily. Gava itusaidie tafadhali. Alikuja akaanza kubadlisha kila kitu. Sasa tunawork under pressure na wengi wamequit. Anatuforce kusign papers bila kuelewa. Hatuwezi vumilia tena," one operator lamented under anonymity.

How can an HR consultant dismissed for gross misconduct now be empowered to fire employees with the blessing of the employer?
