I have bad news — this is not a plan.

This is not even a concept of a plan.

This is demagoguery that tries to pretend that there’s a cakewalk one-step solution to complicated problems — like the largest European war of aggression since 1945 by a revanchist dictatorial regime entirely focused on erasing a neighboring nation and on war and confrontation with the West as a cornerstone of its power. 

To start with, rumors have it that Ukrainians and Europeans don’t “just make peace with Russia” not because they had no idea before JD Vance told them — but because Vladimir Putin’s understanding of “peace” is nothing but the capitulation and the death of Ukraine as a nation, the Russian occupation, and Russian armies coming to the border of Central Europe, with NATO and the West totally bowing down to Vladimir Putin’s will. 

Does that sound like peace one should accept ASAP?

Regarding the heavily fortified “demilitarized zone” along the current line of contact stretching through Ukraine — who said Russia would be fine with freezing the line as it is, without having Ukraine’s Kherson, Zaporizhia, and the rest of Donbas that it enshrined in its own constitution as its national territory?

Who told you that satisfying Putin’s demands of keeping Ukraine out of NATO (and all other “allied institutions” like the EU) would satisfy him and close the issue forever now?

Did the previous 20 years of keeping Ukraine out of NATO per Russian demands prevent a major Russian invasion, or did they only make it inevitable because you bowed down and made things easier for Putin against Ukraine?

If you want Europeans to finally start paying the bill on arming Ukraine (which is a weird allegation as well, given the amount of European defense aid) and make Ukraine behind the “demilitarized zone” too strong to be invaded by Russia again, who told you that would be acceptable to Russia?

A heavily militarized, strong, sovereign, and independent, westernized Ukraine in control of 80% of its territory?

Who told you the Kremlin would agree to this? If Ukraine’s purely hypothetical membership in NATO (which was never going to happen) was used as a casus belli, who told you the Kremlin would be fine with Ukraine staying out of NATO but super-armed to the teeth to prevent another invasion?

Maybe it’s because this war was never about “NATO” or anything like that but about exterminating Ukraine as a nation in any form, and thus keeping it out of history’s most successful defensive alliance that now keeps the Baltic states safe, unlike “neutral” Ukraine? 

Who told you that the Kremlin would give the West time to arm Ukraine to prevent another war?

Who told you that the Kremlin would not demand that all Western weapons be withdrawn from Ukraine and that Ukraine shrink its army into nothing, just like someone's beloved “Istanbul agreements” were saying?

Who told you that the Kremlin would not want to veto all Western defense aid and all assistance in case of invasion, just like someone's beloved “Istanbul agreements” were saying? 

Who said that Vladimir Putin, in another case, would not just say “Thank you very much, you idiots” and take a pause in hostilities to fix his problems, recoup his losses, and attack Ukraine again in a much better shape before too long?

Who said that Vladimir Putin, who made this war the central idea of his dictatorial regime, would even want to enter negotiations of “peace” knowing that the potential next U.S. administration is ready to give him anything he wants for the sake of the false illusion of “peacemaking” that would later lead to catastrophic consequences? 

Who would want to invest in the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine in this case?

Who would want to give any “guarantees” knowing that Ukraine is locked up in the gray zone, knowing that Vladimir Putin may announce that “Nazi Ukraine and its Western masters” violate his “peace agreement” despite his “persistent peace efforts? and therefore it unfortunately needs to be eradicated in yet another “special military operation”?

Like I said, that is not a plan.

That is deeply unserious.
