Great reminder! My verse for today is
Psalm 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.
So your quote lines up perfectly! Thank you! Praying we get to the place where we walk so completely in the affections and love of God that we forget about ourselves. The Freedom I want is a Freedom from self, self-focus, self-love, self-reliance, self-promotion…If we could learn to abide in Christ at all times, never letting our consciousness of His abiding presence go—“setting the Lord always before us”—we would experience true Freedom! —-To this end we strive, resting in the Lord of the Sabbath!
Praying for you my brother! So thankful for you! Be encouraged today—your gifts, life, and ministry has affected me and my house for over 20 years! Keep it up!
Some of you may have heard that Mark Dever almost died about two months ago. Even after his life was spared, it wasn’t clear whether he would ever speak or preach again. I haven’t talked about it much and won’t even now because he and the church haven’t been talking about it much--at least not that I have seen publicly.
Today, however, is his first Sunday back in the pulpit at Capitol Hill Baptist Church, and it was glorious. He launched right into the sermon without even acknowledging his absence. In other words, Mark preached like he wasn’t the point. Not until the last three minutes does he reflect on what happened and give a stirring tear-stained invitation for sinners to trust in Christ and be saved.
The sermon itself is wonderful. He takes up the difficult question of whether the American Revolution was justified. He concludes that it was and gives a defense of it and the reasons outlined in the Declaration of Independence. But that is only the introduction. The main part of the sermon is an exposition and application of Romans 13:1-7.
I am so grateful for this message. I am so grateful that God spared Mark’s life and preserved his ministry. I am so grateful for Mark Dever. Hallelujah. Listen to all of this one.
[The sermon is linked in the thread below.]

Derek Redmond tore his hamstring halfway through the 400m semi-final at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Refusing to quit, he limped on the track in agony. His father, Jim Redmond, pushed past security, embraced his son, and helped him cross the finish line in an iconic display of the Olympic spirit.
Paul was deeply conscious that everything good in him came from the Lord. In himself he was the chief of sinners, less than the least of all saints, not worthy to be called an apostle. But by the grace of God he was what he was. Cultivate that sense in yourself.
