We focus strictly on kids remembering things rather than actually teaching them how to skillfully think for themselves. The ultimate nightmare of any government is a populace that can think critically rather than digesting the crap that it is fed.

Helping children to read with any level of fluency is the first step. We do not grasp that at the same time. Some never do but they can learn to appreciate literature in different ways.

I teach and work in schools and have told siblings and those I teach to please no longer say they don’t like to read and I tell them, “you’ve not yet found that which you like to read”.
