In Baltimore on🇮🇹Amerigo Vespucci @ItalianNavy to start a special🇺🇸tour that will include also NYC & Boston.
To honor and celebrate @America250 with our American friends, Italy brought in the U.S. “the most beautiful ship in the world”, as USS Independence famously said in 1962.
I recently joined @gordoncorera on The Rest is Classified (@triclassified) to discuss intelligence sharing inside NATO, lessons from the run-up to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, alliance trust, and the challenges AI presents for democratic decision-making.
One theme connected all of those topics: trust.
Intelligence sharing, alliance cohesion, and effective decision-making ultimately depend on trusted relationships and trusted institutions.

With Russia continuing its aggression against Ukraine, I wanted to share a treasure from the recent #NATO trip to Kyiv. We were treated to a beautiful youth choir performance in the St Sophia Cathedral. If ever we need reminding what Ukraine 🇺🇦 is defending.
1/ The most important #NATO debate may no longer be burden sharing.
It may be burden shifting.
For decades, allies debated whether America was carrying too much of the load. Increasingly, some are preparing for a different question: what risks must they carry themselves if American support becomes more conditional, transactional, or uncertain?
@LONTDC1@NavyYardNats My son had his scorecard from the game, and Max was signing memorabilia in exchange for a charitable donation, so it was the perfect gift. My photo of the scoreboard from the game as well.
