Thank you to the coaches and everyone at Virginia Union for believing in me. Due to the recent coaching change, I have decided to decommit from VUU. This was not an easy decision, but my recruitment is now 100% back open. @CoachBrisco@zachharrellzook@hatfieldsports

As some of y’all know, I’ve worked for a few college basketball teams over the years one of them being Augusta University, a top Division II basketball program for over 20 years.
Let me introduce y’all to a guy I know well and spent two years with: Demitri Gardner, a 6-foot-4 guard from Winchester, VA. With one year of eligibility left, he entered the transfer portal after an impressive season, earning First Team All-Conference honors in the Peach Belt Conference a tough D2 league.
Gardner averaged 23.2 points per game, ranking among the top scorers in the conference. He shot 50.8% from the fieldand 36.8% from three, while also contributing 4.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game.
Some standout performances from this past season include 36 points and 6 rebounds on 52% shooting against Chowanand 22 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist in an exhibition game against Clemson. He also led Augusta to the NCAA D2 Tournament, though they fell in the first round. Gardner was part of the 2022 Augusta team that reached the national championship a proven winner who consistently faced D1-level talent in D2 play, going up against guys like Frank Champion, who was named SoCon Newcomer of the Year, and Karon Boyd.
One of his most memorable moments came in 2022, when Gardner helped lead Augusta to an upset win over D1 Georgia Southern a victory that went viral across the basketball world.
He was developed by Coach Dip Metress, one of the winningest coaches in D2 history, known for producing not only two NBA players but also multiple successful pro careers for his D2 athletes.
If you know basketball, you know that D2 is packed with D1-caliber talent often, the biggest difference is the size of the bigs. This leads to elite guard play, making Gardner’s success even more impressive. Being one of the best in the country at this level is a big green flag for any program looking to add a proven scorer and leader.
