@EsotericCD I’ve been thinking that. The bicentennial was a huge deal in 1976. I was 8 and it’s a core memory — all the fun ways it infused that year. Special collectible quarters, pop cans, clothing, TV specials. I was sad when it was over.
@Aries_Sherrie So impressed by his show of support through the season when he surely wanted to be on the floor. Wishing him much success and joy in all things ahead!
@mattlindner We landed at ORD last Tues in the middle of the storm w/ biblical hail and tornados. The turbulence took years off my life. I’d rather sit tight and wait for weather to clear.
@NateGchi Exactly right. A total scam. A ridiculous waste of time and punishes people who don’t have or shop with their smartphone — seniors, etc. And the in-store U Deals signage is false advertising.
Grateful to have been adjacent to both programs that shaped Mike Newman: as a parent when our son ran for @XctfYork from 2014-18 — and now as a staff member at North Central College. Two HOF coaches. One passionate, tireless servant. Countless young people impacted by his work.
We are heartbroken to hear of Michael Newman’s passing over the weekend
Mike made a lasting impact on the high school cross country and track & field community throughout Illinois.
His contributions will be profoundly missed but never forgotten. Thank you, Mike, for everything.
Paul Sullivan writes: Ryne Sandberg was more than just a ballplayer. He was a man who changed a team, which transformed a neighborhood, which helped turn a bandbox ballpark called Wrigley Field into a mecca for baseball fans for decades to come.

@DriXander Thank you for this whole thread. I just pulled “An Irrepressible Hope — Notes from Chicago Catholics” off the bookshelf to reread. @Claire_Bushey
@ByJonWalker We need to refocus on what college athletics are about. This is the best win you can get as a student-athlete — lessons and relationships that last a lifetime.
