@redheadteacher@SonjaCherryPaul Given that she was specifically speaking in the context of schools, I feel it's fully appropriate for her to say teachers. If other teachers feel hurt and leave the profession because they were (correctly) called out for wearing offensive or hurtful costumes, that is a GOOD THING
Perimeter Challenge: Use the square cards to make a perimeter of 16. One group found this mysterious occurrance --they kept adding cards but the perimeter didn't change!
Can you explain the mystery as well as a different student did?
The school nurses just sent an email referring exclusively to "menstrual supplies" and at no point using gendered language, and this was _such_ a sticking point last year and I am absolutely fucking thrilled that I don't get microaggressed at 8:45 in the morning today!
Random student was looking for my coworker (who'd had to run home) and I just spent 20min helping a stranger navigate deltamath and composition of functions HUZZAH FOR STUDENTS WHO COME FOR EXTRA HELP! *heart eyes*
Pro: I have really awesome colleagues who I can talk about all sorts of cool pedagogical things with!
Con: Wait, did I just spend my entire prep in that other teacher's room....
Happiness is a student, affronted, pointing out that his page says b - 22 = 41 and another student's page says b - 24 = 41. Why yes, thank you for noticing, please do not copy off your friend's paper you will just have the wrong answer.
I wonder if this 90 minute scheduled zoom call from the district is aware of the fact that the district no longer pays for zoom accounts so we have a maximum of 40 minutes...
Old textbooks is such a terrible thing, because what if I throw them away...and then I NEED them?! Which is why I now have a large pile of them, from other people not needing them.
This year I've managed to acquire several stashes of retired teachers' classrooms. So I'm finally going through everything, and finding what supplies I will _never need to purchase again_
(Meanwhile, I have a gallon bag of pencils, about halfway full. It Is Not Enough. I probably go through two dozen pencils a week and I am fully okay with that. My students have to deal with enough, pencil and paper will _always_ be available to them.)
I like language learners because it makes me think about language and what words are more/less important. "Mx -I can draw a painting on the board?" asked a student wanting to use a whiteboard marker on the back board and I love the understandability!
I feel like I should design some sort of bonus prize for myself every time I encounter the phrase "his or her" in the wild during PDs and other admin stuff. The WIDA training module is just _chock_ full of it!
@ELLCounselor Honestly, the kids who are able to come to school are doing really well --I've been trying to restructure so the work this week is more independent pick-up-at-any-point and doesn't rely so much on previous presence, and I think it's helping!
Thinking about student learning styles and my brain came up with "I definitely prefer needy and right to arrogant and wrong" which isn't one hundred percent true, but it's an interesting outlook on what I'd like to help students with in their work and attitudes
