The modern Kenyan pay slip is turning into a cautionary tale, the administration has made it look almost "illegal" to be on a pay slip due to the relentless accumulation of deductions.
Permanent Housing Levy?
The Budget Appropriations Committee has floated a suggestion to securitize the housing levy to raise an additional KSh 100 Billion.
What does this mean? Securitization essentially locks this levy in place to back financial instruments.
If this proposal moves forward, the housing levy is no longer a temporary experiment, it becomes a permanent, unyielding fixture on your pay slip.
With a proposed KSh 4.8 Trillion budget, the burden continues to lean heavily on a shrinking, over-taxed citizen.

"If countries managed their fiscal affairs prudently, they wouldn't need the IMF.."
A critical recap from @EricKinaga 's analysis earlier today, before the @KeTreasury CS @JohnMbadiN took the floor.
The real issue isn't external actors; it's domestic resource management.
For the common mwananchi, a 'balanced budget' at the National Treasury matters little if it leads to an unbalanced diet at home due to a crushing cost of living.
As Kenya prepares for the presentation of the FY 2026/27 Budget, a critical examination of the fiscal proposals is essential to determine their impact on public service delivery, public debt sustainability, and taxation equity.
Join our Head of Programs, Alexander Riithi, alongside a distinguished panel of tax, investment, and planning experts on Citizen TV Kenya’s Day Break as they break down what the proposed budget means for citizens and institutional accountability.

Barriers women named today: no internet access, cannot afford a smartphone, do not know how to use apps, fear of bullying, distrust of online transactions, family disapproval, no time, religious judgment, and disability access gaps. Every single one is solvable. #AfTPS2026#CARE

Who actually owns Kenyan banks?
This is budgeted corruption in action. One minute you’re in the statehouse making the rules, the next, you profit from a bank you set up. Local banks reap huge interest from domestic borrowing, a closed loop where taxpayers pay more, while a few politically connected players cash in. Concessional loans? Far cheaper, but ignored. The truth is, this system was built to enrich insiders and we need to follow the money to break that cycle.
