Last Saturday I had the proud privilege of leading the Achiase District Assembly and the wonderful people of Akyem Nyankomase in our National Clean-Up Exercise.
Thanks to the incredible turnout and hard work of our community members, youth, and assembly staff, the exercise was a resounding success. A major highlight of our efforts was the complete clearing of the long-standing eyesore dumping site situated right along the entry road to Nyankomase, restoring beauty, hygiene, and a welcoming look to the community.
Environmental sanitation is a shared priority. Keeping our towns clean—especially our entry points—protects public health, prevents disease, and reflects our civic pride.
My profound gratitude goes to everyone who brought their energy, tools, and commitment. Together, we can!

In line with our commitment to agricultural modernization and food security, I led the Achiase District Assembly, through our Department of Agriculture, in partnering with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) on the Ghana Rice Production Improvement Project (GRIP).
Running from 2022 to 2027, GRIP introduces innovative, high-yielding rice farming technologies across two main areas: Irrigation (handled by GIDA) and Rain-fed Production (handled by MoFA).
As one of the 33 major rice-producing districts selected in the Eastern Region, Achiase District is actively hosting demonstration farms to train our local farmers in best practices, including:
1. Viable seed selection & hot water seed treatment
2. Proper nursery management & field bond leveling
3. Precise transplanting technique
4. Timely 3-phase fertilization (NPK & UREA)
5. Efficient harvesting standards
Following the successful rollout with the Emmanuel Rice Farmers Association (Akyem Nyankomase) and Nyamebekyere Rice Farmers Association (Aperade), this year’s phase is currently benefiting the Maranatha Rice Farmers Association at Achiase Junction.
Yesterday, we were honored to host the Japanese GRIP Project Advisor for a site monitoring visit, during which he expressed high satisfaction with our district's remarkable progress!
To scale up this success, upcoming Field Days will be organized for rice farmers across the district to observe, learn, and replicate these techniques on their own farms—significantly boosting local yields, raising farmer incomes, and reducing national reliance on imported rice.
Together, we are growing Achiase’s economy through agriculture.
