[STATEMENT] We have monitored an uptick in paid media placements that has sought to discredit and malign our work, organization, and officers.

We are documenting all of these to help combat misinformation, protect defenders, and for appropriate legal actions.

Many of these paid placements quote an unknown "activist from Rizal" named #BernadetteTorres as their main source. No one knows who she is, her organization, or her track record as an activist.

Thank you to those who have called out these pieces of misinformation. All of us, including the media, have the responsibility to safeguard the truth.

This black propaganda is meant to distract and deflect from the real issue which is the continued destruction of our watershed by vested and destructive interests, enabled by the same people mandated to protect our shared natural heritage.

So many environment defenders have suffered the same harassment for their stance against destructive activities, and we need to stand up to stop this practice.

Note: #VenaEnergy is the same Singapore-based renewable energy company that we have collectively called out in February 2024 for drilling into the Masungi limestone for a wind farm project.

The @onenewsph article that disclosed Vena Energy as the presenter of the advertorial quoting Bernadette Torres earlier identified the @DENROfficial as the presenter of the same. Today, the disclosures are gone.
