I finished the first draft of my MS, the first time I've actually finished! Any wise words of wisdom on how to tackle the 2nd draft or what to do beforehand? Any advice would be appreciated.

I'm not sure how to feel when a side character becomes your favorite character to write. Do you think it makes it easier or harder to develop your protagonist when you enjoy writing for your side characters more?

@AngieTarino You'll get there! I wasn't 100% happy with my 1st draft and wondered if it was worth it, but going through it I can start to see where I can build and improve. I think it will make it easier to get through future 1st drafts. Good luck! We are our harshest critics.

@AngieTarino I printed everything out in a binder. I made a color code and symbols for the different things that I would need to fix like dialogue. Then I have a portion at the end of each chapter to write notes. I'll post a picture sometime.

@AngieTarino Unfortunately I've had to pause for personal reasons. When I was working I was enjoying it because I was able to see what I needed to do to improve my story. First drafts are scary but this process helped me see that I don't need to be so hard on myself the first time.

@ReneeGendron 2/2 In Historical romance the relationship is the main driving force of the characters journey and how these characters come together. The historical time and events just builds the characters journey and circumstances. That's just my opinion anyways...

@ReneeGendron Two parts. I think a romance novel is the romance drives the plot. A novel with romance is where the romance is an element of the characters journey. For example in historical fiction there is romance but the historic time and events is the Catalyst for the protagonists journey.

@borbalabranch I would take it into consideration, especially since they are the expert. It would have to something relevant, like structure and flow. If I have to butcher the heart and soul of my book then it's clear we want to tell two different stories

@katieemorann Kind of both. I interact and learn from other writers. I also document my progress and ask questions so it's as professional as I'm going to get. On the other hand I talk about personal things and non writer related things with others.

Question for my fellow writers on here. Does everyone exclusively write in one pov, such as 1st person or 3rd person or does it depend on the story and character?

One of my favorite things about researching for a story is how sometimes it's like a puzzle. I spent two days trying to find information on one topic and couldn't find anything. Today I tried different wording and expertise and I found what I was looking for.

@hwjohnston7 When I was 10 my mom bought me an typewriter for Christmas. We had a computer, but I wanted to write on a typewriter. Electronics just assist in the process, but at the end of the day our stories come from our imagination. I'll use what output is available.

@mk_lobb I have a couple of ideas that's been kicking my butt for years. I've tried planning them out but when I get to the middle it becomes a jumbled mess of ideas. I've seriously considered pantsing it just to see where it takes me but I'm a hardcore plotter
