The FaZe situation in HLC Belgrade:
First of all, let's get the "what's needed to qualify" question out of the way :
- FaZe still need to win the event to be 100% sure to qualify as things look right now π
- FaZe also have a chance of qualifying if they place 2nd/3rd, but only if other teams playing elsewhere start to fall off (lose costly matches) π
- But they will end below SINNERS with 2nd/3rd as it looks if we use that meassure π
- Anything below 3rd place is a missed major (again!)
-----------------------------------
So.. with that on the table, let me get this straight..
FaZe crashes this tournament last minute, actually we have to assume way after the originally intended deadline.
- They come in late to the party
- They push all the other teams aside getting top seed
- A "random local team" is NOT removed to make the groups same size, meaning the FaZe group "magically" have 4 teams instead of 3 like the rest!!
- Meaning that FaZe will get an extra free LAN win that the original teams in the event will not get (big deal and wildly unfair!)
- They also get a group with no opposition (due to the seed) which is crucial in a Round Robin group stage as the risk of losing a random match is lower.
This is as much help as you can possibly get, so FaZe better make the most of it.
Seems like the gods wants FaZe to make the major π
Especially not having equal sized groups is simply not okay in my opinion! That's actually my biggest complaint seen from the outside.
This extra free LAN Win they are handed, can end up making the difference in a close scenario.
Groups in these LANs should have same size!
A deeper look at the EU Major Qualification (EU) ->
Is it "Catch SINNERS day" today?
We are now finally getting to the point where the projected April 6th ranking which HLTV produces really offers some great insights, so let's look at the ranking (see below).
We know from a SINNERS interview that they will not play anymore and "leave it up to the gods" whether they will qualify.
With their current rank as 14th EU it makes them a good target for other teams that are still active.. kind of the team to aim for if you want to qualify and are still playing events (which everybody else is).
In this analysis I will list what it takes for each team to stay above or get above SINNERS as probably a good way to try to guess who will stay in contention and who will go out of contention today (if any).
I personally think its quite likely SINNERS will be right on the edge of qualifying in the end, which makes it an understandable approach they take :)
The "Who plays what" overview:
DraculaN 6:
We have Monte, Alliance, FaZe in the ongoing DraculaN 6, where the outcome could still be that they all pass SINNERS in a very special scenario.
Much more likely is that Monte will stay above SINNERS, Alliance will probably not get by SINNERS and FaZe could pass SINNERS with a top 3 finish (if 3rd is via Lower bracket)
Parken Challenger Championship 3:
We have B8 and 3DMAX playing here. Both can pass SINNERS.
I would say 3DMAX is quite likely to. B8 could also do it, but have a more narrow road.
3DMAX can afford at least one defeat as long as they get to the final. B8 could also afford a defeat if they win one match against 3DMAX (double elim).
MPKBK CIS LAN 4:
K27 plays here but will have to win the event to pass SINNERS (and get a major ticket 100%).
HLC Belgrade:
BIG plays here and could pass SINNERS with a string of wins but no room for defeats to low ranked opponents.
Stake Ranked:
HEROIC, BetBoom, Gentle Mates, Ninjas in Pyjamas plays here.
HEROIC are likely to stay above, but 0-2 and they fail.
BetBoom can pass SINNERS with 1 win and 2 defeats to high ranked teams.
At least one of Gentle Mates/NIP are likely to pass SINNERS because its most likely one will go deep enough.
It is possible that all 4 teams ends above SINNERS too if BetBoom, HEORIC does just enough and NIP/M8 end in top 3.
If we sum up from above we have extreme scenarios where it is possible that 3 from DraculaN, 2 from PCC3, 1 from MPKBK, 1 from HLC Belgrade and 3 from Stake Ranked will pass SINNERS pushing them way out of contention and making this "catch SINNERS" approach not enough.
Much more likely quite a few will fail in the quest to pass SINNERS.
Alliance, BIG, K27, B8, Gentle Mates/NIP and B8 can easily fail.
Monte/HEROIC will probably stay above.
BetBoom and 3DMAX have a good chance to get past in my opinion.
I also think one of NIP/Gentle Mates have a good chance to pass them.
FaZe will still have to place 2nd or 3rd via Lower Bracket.
One thing is for sure, we will know much more after today π.
Will be interesting how many (if any) will fall out of contention already today.
My guess is if you can no longer catch SINNERS then you are most likely out of the major.

There is something I really miss man...... the competition. Unc wants to play and grind, dont look at the age, its just a number. The will is still strong, motivation likewise. You know the beast which is hiding in me.
