How is it made: Alpha Sport QD, pt 3

Once the carabiner backs have been hot forged, they have excess material which needs to be removed.

A clipping tool is used to push the carabiner through a cutter.

This separates the carabiner from the scrap material, ready for recycling.

How is it made: Alpha Sport Quickdraw, part 2

Once the aluminium bar has been bent to shape, it is heated in a furnace to 460°C, to make the metal softer, ready for hot forging. In addition to heating the carabiners, the Alpha Sport die set is heated to 180° C. ...(1/2)

Given everything we've been though over the last two years - remote learning and the lack of practical work - this evening's competition just exemplifies how far as a subject we have managed to get in rebuilding teamwork and cooperation @KirkhamGrammar

Unfortunately School and Preston can't improve upon their previous scores so it's... 1st Kirkham, 2nd Fylde, 3rd School and 4th Preston. Really well done everyone who took part @KirkhamGrammar

Third and final round of testing in the House Technology Competition @KirkhamGrammar sees Kirkham House score a massive 370cm which would have gone much further if it hadn't hit the door! Fylde respond with a score of 297cm...
