Preah Vihear Temple has been destroyed by Thai shelling during this new round of fighting between Cambodia and Thailand.
A UNESCO World Heritage site has been lost. This is not collateral damage. It is the destruction of irreplaceable cultural heritage during an active conflict.
Thai military says it only targets military sites. So apparently civilian homes and shops now qualify. These “military targets” in Chok Chey village were annihilated by Thai forces this past week.
Cambodia’s Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of Khmer cultural heritage, is reported to have been destroyed by Thai military aggression. The temple, which has long been at the center of border tensions, represents an irreplaceable loss to Cambodia’s history, identity, and world heritage.

Thailand’s behavior fits a bullying pattern. It is using overwhelming force against a weaker neighbor while framing it as defense. It demands Cambodia agree to a ceasefire first while continuing daily strikes. It shifts blame by presenting itself as open to peace while escalating on the ground. It pushes attacks beyond immediate border areas to intimidate. It has carried out repeated strikes in or near civilian areas, contributing to displacement and civilian harm.
Cambodia's Ministry of Defence has claimed on almost a daily basis that the Thai military is using "toxic gas", including as recently as Wednesday in the village where Kun Yong had been stationed. https://t.co/ifJPcCjuTT
