We've had a brilliant and very hot 🥵 day in Disneyland and are now on the coach making our way up to Calais to catch our ferry home! We'll update everyone about our progress home as often as we can.

Our final stop of the day before heading down to Paris was at the Somme 1916 museum, which is under ground! Here we were able to see artefacts found in the trenches in the area, and learnt more about the Battle of the Somme.

Our next stop today was at Mametz Wood and we stopped here for an act of remembrance. Ellie read Mametz Wood by Owen Sheers, and we had a minute's silence.

Our next stop was Lochnagar Crater where we learnt about the use of mines during the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

Second stop was Beaumont Hamel Memorial Park where the Newfoundlanders fought alongside the British at the Battle of the Somme. We learnt about the structure of the trenches, what life was like for the soldier in them, and about the battle that happened there.

Our first stop today was at the Canadian war memorial at Vimy Ridge.

Our last stop of the day was at Sanctuary Wood/ Hill 62. We had the chance to explore some real WW1 trenches and tunnels, and Mr Pitt and Miss Willets even got into character!

Our next stop today was the Passchendaele Memorial Museum where we learnt more about the battle and it's impact on the local area. Our favourite but was the immersive underground bunkers and trenches!

Our next stop today was Tyne Cot cemetery. Here we learnt about a Victoria Cross medal winner, and the battle of Passchendaele.

Second stop today was Langemark Cemetery where we learnt about the war from the German perspective, how the German army had to bury it's war dead, and how we identify soldiers when they are found.

First stop today was Essex Farm Cemetery, where our guide talked about casualty clearing stations, the poet John Macrae and one of the youngest people killed in WW1.

We've had a nice, chilled first day in Ypres. Tomorrow we're off into the trenches!

We've arrived! Everyone was a bit shocked when they were informed they had to make their own beds 🤣

We're on the ferry! We have managed to get an earlier crossing, so should be arriving in France at around 1pm.
