A very interesting and provocative piece by Ken Clark gets to the heart of the assessment matter. Is it it about ranking or learning?
The benefits of getting rid of grading

My parents or school never read stories with two dads to me.
I never saw pride flags as a kid.
I didn’t learn the word gay until I was in secondary school.
I didn’t see any gay role models on tv.
But I’m gay, and always have been.
Straight representation didn’t make me straight. Gay representation won’t make kids gay.
But not having a variety of representation will make some kids feel like they don’t belong, or are wrong.
If people won’t allow children to see the diversity of families, they’re failing them and putting their own prejudice above the wellbeing of their children.
Section 28 banned the ‘promotion’ of homosexuality in schools and is still having effects today, despite being repealed 20 years ago.
Ignorance or bigotry can no longer be used as an excuse and all children should see versions of themselves in our schools and in their lives.
P!nk gives away 2,000 banned books at Florida concerts
"Books have held a special joy for me from the time I was a child, and that's why I am unwilling to stand by and watch while books are banned by schools," said @Pink in a statement about the giveaway https://t.co/zR8w9gvrPB
THIS IS SO GOOD!!
Singer Pink sticks it to DeSantis and says she’ll GIVE AWAY banned books at her Florida concerts.
At her South Florida stops, the singer announced thats she’ll hand out a whopping 2,000 copies of four books that have been banned by various public schools.
“It’s especially hateful to see authorities take aim at books about race and racism and against LGBTQ authors and those of color,” Pink said.
All four books — “The Family Book” by Todd Parr, “The Hill We Climb” by Amanda Gorman, “Beloved” by Toni Morrison and a book from “Girls Who Code,” founded by Resha Saujani — have appeared on PEN American’s Index of School Book Bans.
What are your thoughts?
Anyone else think this is a FANTASTIC idea? 💙
"Instead of sowing division and promoting misinformation, our government should be fostering unity and prioritizing the well-being of its citizens."
Thank you to @SusanCiastko for this excellent op-ed in today's @WinnipegNews.

Hello teaching friends! I’m trying to connect with someone who might be interested in teaching a university math methods course for education students on Middle Years Math. It can be taught in-person or remotely Tuesday & Thursdays this fall from 830-1020am - Winnipeg time
It's September now, so it 's time to think about the Picnic for Public Education! We hope to see many people on Sept. 17 who are interested in learning about how to protect and advocate for our public schools.

Election Question #4 for MLA Candidates:
What concrete actions will your party take to support the implementation of the Indigenous Education Policy Framework?
A good prompt for quick writing:
In a world where you can be anything, be the person who ______________________.
My stab at it: In a world where you can be anything, be the person who returns the shopping cart to the front of the store.
