Today marked the beginning of something I have carried in my heart for a long time. I have always believed that the women of Onigbongbo deserve more than a seat in the audience; they deserve a seat at the table where decisions are made. That belief gave birth to the Onigbongbo Women’s Forum, a platform where our women can find their voice, strengthen one another, and take their rightful place in shaping the future of our communities.

Today, we held its inaugural meeting, and seeing this vision come alive was incredibly fulfilling. It further reinforced my stance that when women are empowered, equipped, and united, entire communities and the society at large prosper.

My sincere appreciation goes to our party leaders, especially the women, and everyone who joined us to make this first meeting such a memorable one. I have no doubt that this is the start of a new chapter for women in Onigbongbo LCDA, one defined by participation, purpose, and progress.

We took the conversations around return migrants and return migrant survivors of trafficking a step further at the Stronger Futures Project Stakeholders Meeting, bringing together key stakeholders from government, development partners, academia, and the development space around one table.

As we reflected on the study's findings and explored practical pathways for strengthening reintegration support, improving cross-border collaboration, and ensuring that those rebuilding their lives are met with dignity, opportunity, and hope, one thing became even clearer to me: no single institution can solve challenges as complex as irregular migration and human trafficking alone. It will take sustained partnerships, evidence-informed policies, and an unwavering commitment to putting people at the centre of every decision we make.

My sincere appreciation goes to Dr. Sarah Adeyinka for leading this important research and creating a platform where evidence, experience, and policy could come together to shape stronger, more humane solutions regarding this highly important issue.

Again, we in Lagos State remain committed to playing our part by working alongside local and international partners to build stronger futures where every returnee is not only welcomed home, but is also given a genuine opportunity to heal, rebuild, and thrive with confidence and purpose.
