It's been an incredible privilege to witness the leadership of two extraordinary wahine politicians in our lifetime:

Dame Jacinda Ardern and Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke. Both have shown that leadership can be compassionate, empathetic, and courageous, defying the relentless attacks and prejudice of anonymous right-wing trolls who seek to vilify them with false claims and misogynistic hatred.

Dame Jacinda Ardern, a true hero, saved more lives than any other New Zealander during the pandemic. She faced baseless accusations of being a communist villain for doing the right thing, for saving tens of thousands of lives. Many of us owe her our gratitude and our lives as the best Prime Minister in the history of Aotearoa.

Hana-Rawhiti Maipi-Clarke has championed the indigenous rights enshrined in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, standing up against old colonial stalwarts like Winston Peters who thought they could mock her. Her bravery is second to none and her use of Te reo Maori in the house is to be admired.

She showed us that young wahine can enter politics and achieve anything they set their minds to.

Kia Kaha Wahine Toa! May their courage and leadership inspire generations to come.
