I don’t know the full backstory, but Sam Harris nails it here: pundits have way too often sold out their integrity in order to build audiences. Step back and you can see the disaster this creates, where pundit messaging & audience signaling become two positive-reinforcing feedback loops that rapidly build echo chambers of profitable but distorted information. This is what I mean when I say the problem with our elites is real, but most get it backwards: they’re not elite enough. Their views are ideological, they sell out their values, and they don’t integrate across the entire spectrum of reality.

I would rather die than not be in service to Truth, Goodness and Beauty. We have run a very niche hub of this kind of thinking @integrallife for 17 years exactly because we won’t sell out this difficult demand for integration, compassion and integrity. Because it doesn’t satisfy our human need for drama and social warfare, there’s a much smaller audience for post-tribalism. And the world is complex, and complexity doesn’t yield simple answers and easy, black and white distinctions. But it’s absolutely essential that we have people like Sam who will stand for it, come what may.
