Wow! First call — J51A 24.892 with 100W and Greyline Performance 32’ Vertical… Dipole Antenna, from Idaho! #hamr is fun again! 73 KL2A
According to the J51A DXpedition Clublog (https://t.co/77taBVD0ZS) log tracking I have them on 10-12-15-17-20M CW+SSB both. That’s a haul from Idaho. Have you worked them?
Rob Sherwood (NC0B) updated his RX performance table (DR Narrow Spaced @2 kHz). IC-7300 Mk2 scores 87 dB vs FTdx101D (110 dB) and FTdx10 (107 dB). A video comparing IC7800 vs IC7851 shows how a weak CW signal reappears as a strong nearby signal is shifted https://t.co/FETRIjwmES
Contesting isn't just a sport. It's an expedition.
My log, and maybe yours too, tells the real story. It’s not just scores, it’s the grit: scaling towers at midnight (YS1X), jungle-foraging for bamboo elements (HR1B), crafting a CW key out of gum wrapper, aligator clips and a BIC pen (TG0AA) and finding a QTH in a cemetery (V47G, St. Kitts!). For me, this was all before I was 25 years old. Formative years!
Those memories—and the occasional scorpion bite—are the thrill that hooks us. All of the above adventures were my solo trips. These days I'm enjoying playing radio adventures with my friends.
The Oct-Mar 2025 season is just two weeks away. What crazy DXpedition memories are fueling your prep?
For me, I'm in the simulation, practicing CW daily with a goal in mind. For SSB, I'm torn between the tropics and the desert. What about you? 73 KL2A
