I think this practice is so important in teacher curriculum design. My colleague and I designed an activity yesterday and then tried it out this morning. We realized it wouldn't quite work the way we wanted it to and we made some meaningful changes.

Then students used this metaphor to discuss the nature of survival in extreme situations like the setting of this story. Some great discussions occurred!
This was a pretty effective post-reading activity in my English 10 classes today. We finished reading Robert Reed’s “The Cull” and then students had to identify when the robot doctor makes decisions with his “most human hand” (emotions) vs. his “least human hand” (logic).
@heymrsbond I broke my ankle badly in Feb of 2023 and was out of school for 2 months for surgery and recovery. I made lesson plans/graded while on leave because no long term sub was hired and I felt guilty. I shouldn’t have. My PLC partner also helped way too much. He shouldn’t have.
@heymrsbond We always have a staff meeting in the morning and then it's a race to get grades done/classrooms closed up. We're free to leave after that. I try to be home before 11:00am that day! :D
@girlmeetsgeek I struggled a lot with my daughter being left out of a roller skating field trip a couple of months ago (Farmington District) because she had a sprained ankle. What about the kids who have physical differences and can't participate? These districts need to rethink this.
@girlmeetsgeek Ugh, this is so inequitable. I'm sure you will, but I'd make sure the principal and district admin know that this isn't okay. There are so many reasons why students would be left out of a field trip like this.
@MarcusLuther6 Not that much anymore, honestly. Instead I run around like crazy in on writing days and give verbal feedback as they write—they’re so much more willing to listen to feedback this way and make meaningful changes.
@MarcusLuther6 This might not help this year, but my PLC partner and I do mini research assignments all year where students answer what they know about a topic, come up with search terms, find an article, and cite it properly. When we get to the research paper, they know these steps already!
It was dress like a student day and my students had no idea that was me with my head down until 5 minutes into the class when they were wondering where I was, so I think I nailed it. 🍎😂
Taylor Swift just announced the release of a new song called “The Albatross” and that noise you hear is every literature teacher in the country shrieking with joy at the prospect of getting to teach “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”
Tracy Chapman is one of my absolute favorite artists and admittedly, I wasn’t thrilled about this cover. However, he clearly admires the hell out of her and that’s all right by me. ❤️
It’s a marvelous way to start your Monday as Tracy Chapman’s original “Fast Car” is now #1 on iTunes for the FIRST TIME since she released it a~36 yrs ago.
*I highly recommend buying or downloading the entire album. It’s magic. #GRAMMYs#TracyChapman
