A Dutch PhD candidate studying seaweeds at Swansea university. There's probably a joke about the Dutch and weed in there but I still haven't found it. (he/him)
An important point about the @ucu strikes which I hadn't realised (just pointed out to me) is that many students do not realise that those striking will not be paid for those days. For those striking for 10 working days that's half of the month's pay lost. This is important 1/2
Seaweed research really used to be a lawless land. Just tossing some orange juice into your culture medium could get you a publication in Nature.

And that’s a wrap! #BPS2022 has been, in my humble and unbiased opinion, a great conference! Even though we couldn’t meet in person this year I really enjoyed all we could do digitally.
I do have some personal closing thoughts I wanted to share though. A thread 🧵 (1/11)
And lastly but not leastly, the team of volunteers from @swanuni. We’ve had a rough go at organising a conference in times of omicron. Pretty last minute we had to switch gears to change from a hybrid conference to online-only. You’ve been absolute champions. (10/11)
Last talk of the conference☹️. @RobertH27997952 is applying nanopore sequencing to the study of phytoplankton. A fascinating technique considering what it can do for a relatively low cost. #BPS2022
