It’s what you’re born with…then what you experience as you grow…experiences from family, from friends, from socio-cultural influences, from opportunities, from coaching…

I love this little anecdote from former champion @PaulSmithJnr. His very early experiences with his brothers (Callum, Stephen, and Liam) shaped his journey as a fighter, as a competitor, as a skilled warrior. From the play fights to the shared obsession with the Rocky films…the Smith brothers were shaped from a young age to box professionally…to become national and world champions.

It’s not just what you’re born with. And it’s not just what you learn along the way. It’s a complex combination of many factors that add up and mould the sporting figure you become…
