According to the Metropolitan Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:39 p.m. to the 4300 block of E Street SE, where they found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound. The family alleges the teen had recently been released from secure juvenile custody and was staying at the group home when armed men entered the facility through a window and opened fire. They say the teen was shot twice in the back and that the gun reportedly malfunctioned while it was pointed at his face.

Gaithersburg, MD - Montgomery County Department of Police Major Crimes Division – Homicide Unit detectives have arrested 18-year-old Earl Deangelo Charles Jr. of North Potomac in connection with the April 9, 2026, shooting death of 32-year-old Christopher Gove of Gaithersburg.
On Thursday, April 9, 2026, at approximately 5:55 a.m., Montgomery County police 6th District officers responded to the 12500 block of Carrington Hill Drive in Gaithersburg for the report of a shooting.
Officers located Gove inside the residence suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel provided lifesaving efforts and transported Gove to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
While at the scene, officers recovered a shell casing in the driveway. Witnesses also reported seeing a black vehicle leaving the area.
Shortly afterward, officers responded to the area of Key West Avenue and Darnestown Road for a vehicle collision. Officers located a black Toyota Highlander with the driver’s side door open and no occupants nearby. A registration check revealed the vehicle was registered to Gove’s address on Carrington Hill Drive.
Major Crimes Division detectives responded and assumed the investigation. Detectives executed a search warrant on the Toyota and recovered items of evidentiary value.
On Friday, April 10, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore determined that Gove died from gunshot wounds and his death was ruled a homicide.
Evidence recovered during the investigation was submitted for forensic testing, and on June 15, detectives connected the shell casing recovered at the scene to a firearm recovered in Prince George’s County. Detectives learned Charles had previously been arrested during an investigation where the firearm was recovered.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives connected Charles to the homicide and armed carjacking. On Friday, June 26, detectives obtained an arrest warrant charging Charles with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, and armed carjacking.
On Monday, June 29, Montgomery County Department of Police Task Force officers assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Charles in Prince George’s County.
He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, pending a bond hearing.

WORKERS TO RECEIVE MORE THAN $243,000 AFTER D.C. LABOR INVESTIGATION
WASHINGTON, D.C. — More than 200 workers at The Park at 14th will receive money they should have been paid after a District investigation found the nightclub violated multiple labor laws.
D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb announced the business has agreed to pay $243,350 to resolve allegations that it denied employees paid sick leave, misclassified some workers as independent contractors, and retaliated against employees who raised concerns about their rights.
Under the agreement:
• $127,321 will go directly to affected workers.
• $116,029 will be paid in penalties to the District.
• The business must provide retroactive paid sick leave where required.
• The Park at 14th must also change its employment practices and submit compliance reports to the Office of the Attorney General for the next three years.
For many employees, this case wasn’t just about a paycheck. It was about receiving the workplace protections guaranteed under D.C. law.
Attorney General Schwalb said the settlement puts money back into the pockets of workers who earned it while ensuring businesses that follow the law aren’t placed at a disadvantage.
Workers who believe their labor rights have been violated can contact the D.C. Office of the Attorney General’s Workers’ Rights Section for assistance.
