Productive and insightful meeting with our respected language expert, Professor and creative thinker Saed Salah Ahmed.

I benefited greatly from his advice on strengthening the use of the Somali language in intergovernmental communication and in government-to-public engagement—except where another language is genuinely necessary.

I also shared my initiative to expand Somali terminology, especially in public administration and workplace technology, so our language can confidently express modern management concepts.

The Government Communications & Branding Training has been successfully concluded, benefiting 70 Heads of Communications representing ministries, independent bodies, agencies, and other public institutions across the Government of the Republic of Somaliland.
Delivered by the Office of the Advisor to the President – Strategic Communications and Public Engagement (SCPE), this milestone marks the official launch of the “Government Messaging and Branding Unification Program,” known in Somali as “Midaynta Ereyga iyo Astaamaha Xukuumadda.”
The program aims to align government messaging across all institutions, standardize how information is shared with citizens, establish a unified Government Brand, and strengthen clarity, credibility, and coordination in public communication.
This initiative represents a major step toward modern, coordinated, and citizen-focused government communications—laying the foundation for a unified national voice and a stronger public sector identity.

It was a pleasure to be honored by H.E. the President of the Republic of Somaliland with the opportunity to brief him and the Cabinet on the outcomes of the national communications and branding reforms he directed me to lead.
Completed milestones include establishing a standardized government communications office across all institutions, standardizing the national emblem and institutional logos, deploying a CCMS dashboard linking all ministries and the Office of the Presidential Advisor for unified public messaging and crisis response, and advancing the Presidential Digital Library in Somali, Arabic, and English.

Somalia stormed the Security Council to crush Somaliland’s recognition but left empty-handed. No resolution, no punitive measures. Just a briefing and empty nod to sovereignty, zero legal weight. In UN diplomacy, pressure comes from outcomes, not meetings.
A competent government would hold its UN Permanent Representative accountable for failing on what it called an “existential” issue. Instead, Mogadishu sells a fake victory at home, applauding its UN envoy for whitewashing Barre’s crimes. Electoral fiction or diplomatic confusion — Who knows?

The Office of the Advisor to the President – Strategic Communications and Public Engagement (SCPE) has made strong progress in strengthening Somaliland’s Government Communications System. Phase I of the national reform program is now complete, following nationwide assessments of communications capacity, government branding, and institutional social media use, establishing a solid evidence base for long-term reform.
Based on these findings, the Civil Service Commission has formally standardized dedicated Communications Offices across government, assigning them clear and unified mandates for strategic communications, media relations, branding compliance, public engagement, message coordination, and policy alignment.
Phase II is now underway, unifying the Government Brand from national institutions to everyday documentation through a finalized branding framework, a new Government Branding Portal, and a centralized communications dashboard linking all government communications offices to SCPE.
Next steps include training Communications Directors and rolling out a unified government social media and crisis communications strategy across more than 100 platforms, ensuring clarity, accuracy, transparency, and one trusted government voice.

Appreciation to the French Government for its long-standing support, from introducing Laas Geel to the world in 2002 to today’s strong commitment to protecting heritage and promoting cultural tourism.
Highlighted how Somaliland’s rich heritage strengthens identity, cultural diplomacy, and the quest for recognition, while driving tourism, creative industries, jobs, and inclusive economic growth. Culture remains a strategic asset for both diplomacy and development.

With renewed diplomatic engagement, the spirit of patriotism and the national quest for recognition has been powerfully revived. Hopes are high that before the end of this year, the first nations will formally recognize Somaliland’s statehood.
Peace and unity continue to be strengthened as former clan-based militias are formally trained and integrated into the national forces, fostering reconciliation and stability among communities previously divided by armed conflict, and reinforcing social cohesion from the grassroots level. Public services are also improving across the country. Construction has begun on the largest public hospital in Burao, which is designed to serve the eastern regions.
Water prices have been lowered in Burao, Berbera, and Awdal, while electricity costshave been reduced by 19.2% nationwide, except in Berbera, where they have reached a record low of 0.2 cents — surpassing the original five-year reduction target of 15% pledged by President Abdirahman during his campaign.
These achievements reflect a nation healing, advancing, and standing together— guided by leadership devoted to peace, service, and the enduring aspirations of the people of Somaliland.

I had the honor of participating in important meetings bringing together representatives from the Government, national and private media, and civil society organizations.
We exchanged valuable insights on improving access to government information and ensuring accurate, timely communication with the public. I also briefed participants on the newly developed Government Communications and Media Strategies, designed to bridge gaps between the government and the media, foster transparency, and enhance public understanding.
Together, we reflected on Somaliland’s ongoing peace efforts, especially the new peace deal in Sanaag, and on the positive international response following the President’s historic outreach to 193 countries on 17 May 2025, a milestone strengthening Somaliland’s diplomatic standing and opening possibilities for recognition.
Such dialogues will continue regularly a vital step toward trust, collaboration, and shared national purpose. Communication must remain a bridge for unity, and engagement a tool for progress.
