@DrewPavlou I'm waiting for calls to add new technology to commercial aircraft so they can be crashed remotely, in case a terrorist plot is interrupted mid-flight.
To be clear, I'm not opposed to actual humanitarian aid being provided to the PEOPLE of Gaza. But... History shows that aid diversion to benefit corrupt leadership and pay for militarization has been a massive issue. Hamas has also traditionally used aid as a mechanism to control/leverage/subdue the general population, with killings being commonplace. If the aid delivery channels are not controlled by either Hamas nor the Palestinian Authority, then there might be some hope, but until I see proof of this I will remain skeptical. Good to see you by the way.
1(a) is US - this is Canada. Charter 2(b) is the equivalent here. Canadian courts are not nearly as generous regarding awards for Constitutional rights violations, although there have been some notable exceptions.
A journalist has the ability to dig, name names, and publicly shame the unworthy, which is likely to be much more satisfying than a miniscule damage award, and may actually lead to change.
Also - there is a significant difference between a 1(a) auditor "poking the bear" to see if they'll be arrested, and an established journalist carrying out a protected activity that is an essential part of their job, and clearly in the public interest - this often makes police uncomfortable due to the public scrutiny it can bring. Interfering with the legitimate job of a journalist is, in my mind, a much worse situation, as it directly impacts countless other people simultaneously, by potentially depriving them of information to which they are lawfully entitled.
What is really being sought here is a US Dollar devaluation relative to other currencies - that is the immediate impact of a Fed rate cut. US trading partners would then have less need to liquidate Treasury holdings, or might be able to buy MORE Treasurys, which would put downward pressure on bond yields and interest rates in the real US economy. I'll point out that tariffs, motivated by the desire to eliminate trade deficits, are aggravating the problem by contributing to a relative scarcity of US dollars available for trade globally. A global reserve currency *must* continuously feed new currency units into an expanding global economy, and trade deficits are an important mechanism to do this. They are also one way the US is able to "export inflation" which would otherwise be much worse domestically.
@rationalpursuit@UntoldWarFacts The tubes were very small, and most were indeed made of glass. You can still see surplus tubes for sale by enthusiasts/collectors from time to time. The tubes were immobilized in a hard wax.
@stephen_taylor@kevincorke He's not wrong. Many jurisdictions are better than Canada in terms of cost-of-living, taxation, and business climate. Some are vastly better. Canada is a nation in decline, where the Leftist ruling class and their supporting voters have disconnected themselves from reality.
Leftist Elites don't know much, but the one thing they DO know is that legitimate wealth can only be created by government, or inherited. Anyone who "creates" wealth, especially societal wealth, through any other means must be stealing it from someone. And by "someone" they mean the Leftist Elites.
@JonFraserTF You don't nationalise a business to "make it more efficient". You nationalise it to create a place where incompetent political cronies can be sent to draw large salaries, and receive large bonuses, with no risk of being fired. Efficiency implodes as a result.
@mindingottawa@AnitaAnandMP@GAC_Corporate To be clear, the fact they got caught would be seen as the problem. Look for the minister responsible for that "other department" to be fired, shuffled, or assigned to a foreign post (if it hasn't happened already).
@JonFraserTF I can't help but think this warmed-over government created the crime problems on purpose, so Canadians wouldn't object when their rights were eroded later in the name of "safety".
@david_parker It's as if most of the population suffers from some sort of collective Stockholm Syndrome. Even the most overt acts of corruption are accepted and normalised. Same for incompetence. This acceptance, enthusiasm really, is the main reason I have given up and decided to leave.
