The Uganda Shilling has faced depreciation pressures, weakening by 6% against the US dollar since the beginning of August 2026, as demand for foreign exchange has outpaced available supply.

In response to emerging economic pressures, the Bank of Uganda raised the Central Bank Rate from 9.75% to 12% and increased the Cash Reserve Requirement to 13.5% in September.

Government’s expenditure releases are being aligned with the monetary policy stance to support macroeconomic stability.

🇺🇬 OKOT BONIFACE PRESENTS COMMITTEE REPORT ON UNBS

Hon. Okot Boniface is presenting the Tourism, Trade and Industry Committee’s report on stakeholder complaints about persistent leadership, governance and mandate implementation challenges at the Uganda National Bureau of Standards.

Parliament is considering the motion to adopt the report under Item 5 of the Order Paper for 7 October 2026.

Parliament’s Trade Committee has recommended that the Minister of Trade initiate the removal of National Standards Council Chairperson James Kalibbala on grounds of unfitness to hold office, while respecting his right to be heard.

The report, presented by Hon. Boniface Okot, says Kalibbala used the title “Eng” without being a registered engineer.
