“Wildwood” director Travis Knight calls AI an “amazing piece of technology” but says, “I’m not embracing it at all.”
“I see technology as a tool, and we use technology at Laika. A pencil is technology, a paintbrush is technology, a 3D printer is technology. Technology is useful when you put it in the hands of people, when you put it in the hands of artists who can amplify their voice."
“Technology is not useful when it takes the place of the artist, and that’s the concern with generative AI,” he continued. “It’s an amazing piece of technology, but the concern is that when it supplants the artist, then we have an issue because the computer cannot speak about humanity at all. It doesn’t know what it feels like.”

I don’t give a fuck what Sam Altman declares. Why are we just letting these tech bros make these decisions for us? When did we all decide we don’t have any agency?
Guillermo del Toro: “Be very angry about how the world is being fucked, how your craft is being pulled away from you, how people are trying to move you away from the arts and tell you they’re not important. Be angry that things are being controlled by socially barely functional people that have a lot of money. Be angry about something. Be enraged about something”~Guillermo del Toro
Nope....not participating in that. I want to see actual people creating things using their talents, not talking to a program. If you don't have an actual talent or can't develop one (practice, practice, practice!), don't call me. Am I old school? You bet. I'll die old school...and leave AI stupidity to the talentless.
It’s extremely stupid to let the GenAi CEOs- thieves who stole from creatives and the general public to make their billion dollar fortunes- have ANY part whatsoever in regulating GenAi.
Especially as behind the scenes these same people kill any kind of real regulation on GenAi.
Hey, Mathematicians and Scientists:
This is exactly what happened to writers, artists and all creative professions.
Except we weren’t using any GenAj products. Our work was just stolen from us to power the machines.
GenAi Companies will exploit your labor too. Remember that.
I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.
Anthropic AI researcher Jacob Coxon has quit the company with a dire warning: “The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade.”
“This is not a marketing stunt. If anything, many executives and senior researchers will couch their phrasing in the press to sound sensible – but I hear the same people express fear privately. No other human activity poses this level of danger.”

A.I. is not replacing us, it's stealing from our collective knowledge and then selling it back to us while it also steals our water, our bees, and our planet.
A.I. is a thief packaged as an optimization tool.
This is a full-scale assault on creators' rights.
Countries should stand up to the current US administration, and refuse to legalise the theft of creators' work to benefit AI companies.

Here’s the reason why the DoJ made that disgusting claim that GenAi companies should be able to steal our Intellectual Property for free.
Since 2022 it was clear that copyrights were the main battle for GenAi companies, as they rely on theft for their models to work at capacity.
So the US Government is now supporting theft while essentially rendering basic rules of law and IP protections useless?
That’s our intellectual property and it’s not for the government to freely give away.
Sick and tired of crooks taking over everything that’s happening.
WTF
AI companies are purchasing large quantities of used and rare books. Scanning their contents to train models. Then turning the originals to pulp.
The sum of human thought, digitized and shredded.
Every book that gets scanned disappears from the physical world permanently. The knowledge survives only as training data inside a system no one can hold, browse, or resell.
What used to sit on a shelf for centuries now exists as weights in a model that might get deprecated next quarter.
@TheWrap ITS not making history! It doesn’t exist and nobody will watch this AI slop pile of shit! Stop giving this abomination a voice, stop giving it PR! Fuck AI!
