For the 2026 midterm primaries, record-shattering sums of money were unleashed, with overall political ad spending passing $4 billion by June 1, 2026, on its way to a projected history-making cycle total of $11.6 billion.

AI & Cryptocurrency Networks: Emerging tech-focused super PACs (such as Fairshake and Leading the Future) pumped a staggering $127 million across more than 100 primaries this year. They achieved a roughly 90% success rate backing their chosen candidates.

AIPAC Pro-Israel Spending: The American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) drastically scaled up its primary operations, funneling over $63 million into primary contests, and passing $104 million in overall cycle spending by August.

Dark Money & Megadonors: The four main congressional super PACs pulled in $197.7 million from hidden, non-disclosing "dark money" sister organizations early in the cycle to help clear or shape primary fields. Concurrently, a handful of elite billionaire megadonors poured over $1.6 billion into political action committees to tip the scales during primary season.

They spent billions to sway voters but they were actually buying influence with candidates. That kind of money doesn't come without strings attached.
