OTA notes from 49ers practice:
Mike Evans is annoying in the sense that he's always gonna be open and you can throw it to him every time if you wanted to. He's automatic on one route and it's a free first down. Kittle said Evans killed it in red zone last week.
Jacob Cowing moves different. He runs away from coverage effortlessly in ways that none of the other WRs can. Would not sleep on him as an option. Evans said he has a lot of juice and expects him to be a factor this year.
Stribling looks like Stribling. Beat 2 on a go ball. Got behind the defense on a post for six. Heard, "That boy 15 can run, can't he?"
Jaden Dugger is an interesting one. He has a better feel/read than I initially thought. Saw him slip a couple blocks today/beat guys to spots.
Odighizuwa moves like an EDGE. He looks the part. He looks like something they did not have on the roster last year.
Halton looks like he's carrying some bad offseason weight. Wonder if he ends up behind the 8-ball because of it ala Alfred Collins last year.
If the 49ers are gonna reach their ceiling defensively Mustapha is gonna have to look something like Hufanga '22. Maybe not All-Pro level, but somewhere around it. He had a nice INT on Brock today. There is going to be a lot on Mustafa's plate this year. Can he answer the challenge?
I really like Jordan James. No nonsense runner that's gonna hit a bunch of singles and doubles. That's what the running game needs.
More from Trent Williams:
He called Mike Evans a HOFer and that it's tough for young players not to fangirl over him.
He said Dre Greenlaw is like having a brother back and said it's like having Batman & Robin at LB again.
He said 2024 was a shit show
Trent Williams said the 49ers got robbed of a home game in Week 1 and thinks the NFL did it to "cover some deficiencies" for the Rams' home ticket sales.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office issued a warrant for the arrest of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk on a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speeding, @nwagoner confirmed.

New Striking Gold!
@KP_Show and I talk through the Rams' blockbuster trade for DE Myles Garrett and how it affects the #49ers' chances in the NFC West.

I'd push back on Verse continuing on the same trajectory. Garrett having the season he did with that offense is what made it so historic. Now he goes to a team that'll consistently play with the lead. The difference in opportunities + Garrett's ability to finish plays and the attention/gravity that comes with it all makes this trade a no-brainer for the Rams
@marxthrone he had been on an unreal trajectory (he was amazing in a lost 2020 year) for three seasons in a row and that game was the "I'm the one" moment.
The 49ers' possessions in the NFC Divisional round in '21:
3 and out, -11 yards
3 and out, 0 yards
3 and out, -1 yard
3 and out, -3 yards
INT on 1st & goal after finally picking up a first down
FG (started at midfield)
3 and out, -1 yard
Turnover on downs
GW FG to win 13-10

Bombshell: The Browns are finalizing a trade that will send two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams, per @rapsheet, @TomPelissero and me.
In exchange for Garrett, the Rams are expected to send Pro-Bowl edge Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick and other draft-pick compensation still being negotiated to the Browns.
Looked at how the 49ers performed in previous seasons this decade to come up with a few different outcomes for 2026.
Dream scenario: The second half of 2022, when everything clicked
Realistic: A watered-down version of 2023
Worst-case: 2024, when everything around the QB crumbles
From there, it's just about how the ball bounces and the coin flip games https://t.co/WbQMPLDrBl
I’m dumb. We forgot to factor in the bye. that throws everything off. Meant to focus post bye where theres’s a month and a half or so stretch where they’ll be up against it, but the season long number makes it negligible thanks to the first half of the season.
The 49ers are sitting at a -12 day rest differential. Some tough spots in the second half.
The Seahawks are coming off a bye in their Week 12 matchup after the Mexico City game.
You follow that up with an East Coast trip to New York in Week 13(obvious letdown spot), then get the Rams coming off a mini-bye in Week 14 after they just played on TNF.
Then, in Week 15, you get a quick turnaround on Thursday night. And Week 17 vs. Philly, you're getting the Eagles off a mini-bye (TNF the previous week).
@CoachCrocky I know you didnt let the 14 year old running a 10.5 walk away like it's all good. either you recruit him or lemme get the school and I'm taking a drive your way. 21.8 is moving. 10.5 and taking the foot off the gas is obnoxious
PETA's Senior VP Lisa Lange put out a statement urging Kittle to be more compassionate after this tweet, and I wish I were joking.
“Spiders are tiny compared to the average human, let alone an NFL player, and have a lot more to fear from us than we do from them, so there’s no need for unnecessary roughness. PETA is urging George Kittle to drop the unsportsmanlike conduct and adopt a live and let live approach when it comes to uninvited arachnid guests.”
Welcome to the offseason.
At 4 am this morning, as I laid in a deep slumber, I was called to action by my wife who had discovered a spider the size of a half dollar in the bathroom. Without hesitation I arose to combat the intruder. Claire handed me the slant board I’ve been using for rehab, and I immediately knew the spider had no chance. It took but 1 attempt to strike down my opponent. I received hugs and kisses for my bravery and fell back asleep with confidence. Have a day gentlemen. 🕷️
